Games You Beat in 2025: Year of the Backlog

I have returned! Ok, so this didn't turn out quite how I had expected. I now have a better grasp of what was going on, what the different character's motivations were, their relationships to each other, etc. All the endings put together really paint an overall picture that explains all of that very clearly. The thing is the endings don't quite work together in a "this is what happened" kinda way. Without getting into spoilers, the first NG+ cycle immediately drops a bomb that was deliberately omitted from the initial playthrough. So basically every conversation in the entire game is recontextualized. It feels kind of artificial but it makes the first playthrough pretty mysterious and mindfucky so I don't really have a problem with it, I guess. But after that, the other endings mostly serve to flesh out everyone's motivations and feelings with ending 4 providing the last pieces that tie everything together. It's hard to talk about this without dropping a huge spoiler so I'll just say that the game never quite explained the parts that I was the most curious about because, ultimately, that wasn't the point of the game. Or maybe there's some stuff I just didn't pick up on... I'll probably watch some youtube videos to see what others have come up with. I'm sure there's a ton left to unpack since the endings have some contradictory elements and even some hints that But yeah, overall I really enjoyed the game. I'm not enough of a Silent Hill superfan to say whether or not it's a valid entry into the series but I loved both the SH2 Remake and this and I'm looking forward to Townfall, whatever that turn out to be. -
It looks cool, but it also doesn't feel like real gameplay, looks really choreographed, way too smooth for a boss fight IMO. With a title like Total Chaos I was expecting full action stuff, not creepy horror stuff. This one was pretty interesting, not too sure about the rogue-lite aspects though, but it could be fun.

Dispatch Goddamn this game, so good. The story and the characters are incredible, your actions (at least feel like) they have real consequences, even the dispatching game itself, which I could have done with a little less of, plays into the larger narrative in a very satisfying way. Everything just comes together so well into an almost perfect whole. If you have any interest in narrative games you've gotta give this one a shot, it's better than anything Telltale ever did. Grade: A+ -
I'm finally sick of my Scuf's bullshit (the controller itself is great, it's the software that sucks), so I'm planning to get the controller as soon as possible.

Not technically a game, but I got this for my Clone Hero playing on Steamdeck. Grabbed the GT Live controller a month ago, and I'm enjoying it enough to convince me to drop £120 on this thing, and actually play the songs I love with a 5-fret for the first time. -

I'm not a huge fan of beat-em-ups but even I loved Shredder's Revenge. It's especially great for couch coop. -

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Streets of Rage 2 and 4 (Probably my top recommendation) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Absolum TMNT: The Arcade Game The Simpsons Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara River City Ransom Castle Crashers Comix Zone Splatterhouse 3 -
I got my eye on that controller. I use my steam deck docked to my tv most of the time, and while the DS5 works well enough for the most part there are always those few games in the backlog that don't gel super well with it. I really like how the deck feels in portable mode so if this controller is basically just the steam deck with the screen chopped off then it would be perfect.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time After getting through Hades II I wanted to play a something a little lighter, so I grabbed the retro-console and gave this little slice of 90's gaming a look. Now, I'm not really a fan of the beat-em-up; it just wasn't something I played a lot of growing up, and as such it isn't something I gravitate towards. That said I had a good time with this. It's fairly brief, but that's to be expected from this sort of game. Had a good time with it though and I'm probably going to try and play more games in this genre going forward. Any recs? Hades II Technically I beat Hades II. Took me some 50 hours, but I finally hit credits and unlike Hades 1 I didn't have to enable God-mode. Go me I guess? I am however, not yet done with this one though. I want to get through the prologue before I consider putting it down. Dispatch Man, I fucking adore this game. It's been a breath of fresh air and a game I've been delighted to return to twice a week for the last month. I had some minor issues with the games 'tactical' mini-game (which may well be down to me not fully understanding the mechanics), but everything else from its story to it's characters and it's overall presentation was superb and I can't wait to see what Adhoc has in store going forward. -
New VR Headset New Controller New Steam Machine No prices as of yet, but I imagine we'll find out more pretty soonish as these are coming in 'early 2026'. I'm mainly interested in the Steam Machine. I've got a library of some 700+ games on Steam, as well as many many more games on various other libraries. And as much as I adore my Steamdeck, sometimes it just doesn't have the power to play what I want to play on my TV. I don't have the space to go full gaming PC anymore, and I have been interested in a behind-the-TV option for a while, unfortunately price is always the issue on that front... If Valve can find a way to make this thing affordable, it might be my new go-to gaming platform. Big if though. New Steam Hardware

Chrono Trigger DS My first time ever beating Chrono Trigger. I don't know what to say. It was really good. Maybe the best Square game I've played? Loved FF6 and FF9 but Chrono Trigger...! Works great on the AYN Thor, lovely to play it with two screens. Score: 11/10 -

Yeah I'm guessing it was more of a hard lock-up after dodging because I played for a few hours last night and she still does the little pause. It's annoying because if you dodge while running away from something she just comes to a complete stop for like a solid second, which is often enough for whatever is chasing you to get a good hit in. -
Yeah, that new controller looks awesome, I'd definitely be planning to get one if I hadn't recently bought a Scuf.

Oh, if it is that little pause after a dodge then yeah, mine did that too, and like you I just assumed it was designed that way. -
I've been waiting for a new Steam Controller ever since my old one broke and the only reason I haven't bought an Index yet was because of all these Deckard leaks over the last couple years. I'm definitely ordering a Steam Frame and Steam Controller once pre-orders are live. The GabeCube is neat and I hope it takes off this time but I personally don't really have a need for it.

Lol I only got that on my first playthrough and I assumed it was a bug caused by the mod I used to remove the 30fps cap and blackbars in cutscenes. For that dodge bug, I'm assuming it's about how you stop for a second or so immediately after a dodge. It's annoying as hell but I assumed that was just how it worked. I guess I'll find out tonight. -

lol, just in time for my NG+ runs. I did beat the first playthrough without it, though I never got the unresponsive Hinako bug. My favorite is this one though: because there were all kinds of fan theories about why there were two Shus there, but only sometimes. -

Well shit, now i can brag that I finished Silent Hill f on hard before it got nerfed. New patch just came out and : It also adds a new casual difficulty and an option to skip some sections in NG+. Sounds like those might be the more tedious combat sections near the end. But, more importantly... That was a bug?!?!? -

Dispatch Season finale dropped today. All in all, this game is fantastic, maybe the best that the Telltale guys have ever made. I know that their previous works were constrained by the budget and technology of the time but this is the first episodic game I can think of that actually looks good enough to pass for a tv show. Hell, it looks better than plenty of actual animated shows. I would love to see this universe expanded as a series. I know that R-rated superheroes have become a bit of a cliche with Invincible and The Boys and too many other examples to list, but Dispatch sets itself apart with its more comedic and optimistic tone. These heroes are perverts and jerks and fuckups but they're trying their best out there. It also helps that they're really funny. I laughed out loud at several moments in this season, but when the drama hits it hits hard. I like these characters and I got emotionally invested in them. That's good writing. Unlike previous games by Totally-Not-Telltale, this one has more actual gameplay with the dispatch shifts. Your job is to sit in front of a computer and pick the right hero to send to the right distress call. It sounds overly simple on paper but every episode throws in new workplace complications to shake up your shifts. You can't just solely depend on number crunching stats for your heroes. You also have to take their powers, their mercurial personalities, and their relationships into account when deciding who to send where. A perfect shift with no mistakes is trickier than you think. The story veers onto pretty different paths depending on your choices too. This isn't just a situation where someone might die and then the story plays out the same except they're absent and occasionally people mention it. Depending on what you choose and how well you do on your shifts you could be seeing two completely different scenes in an episode. You will have to play through the season at least twice to appreciate all the content. That's not a bad problem to have when it's so enjoyable. This game really took me by surprise. I bought it because of positive word of mouth and I can see why people like it so much. This would be a game of the year contender if there weren't already so many strong choices this year. It at least deserves best narrative. -
Yeah if I didn't already have a high-end desktop I'd seriously consider getting one of these.
-
I don't know what happened at Valve to make them suddenly start making so much great hardware but I'm here for it. I did not like the old steam controller or steam machine or even the Index hardware but all of this honestly looks good and I have been absolutely loving my steam deck since I got it. I don't need another VR headset anytime soon but I am liking the look of that controller.

Would like for some of this stuff (mostly the Gabecube and the controller) to be available here, but I doubt that'll be the case lol.

I also just finished Silent Hill f and instead of returning to Ghost of Yotei like I planned I will be diving right back in for the other endings.
