  2. The one I got for my niece worked great. And with those controls you wouldn't want to be playing anything newer than like SNES, so you should be golden.

  5. A Game About Digging A Hole Silly little game about (you guessed it) digging a whole. Only took me like three hours, but those three hours completely flew by and I had a really good time with it. So if you've got an evening to kill, or enjoy the dig>loot>upgrade sort of thing, give it a look. 4/5

  7. Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny This one is supposed to be the fan favorite but I think I actually liked the first one better. Onimusha 2 is longer, bigger, and more ambitious for sure. Especially in its storytelling. It's probably a better game for it overall but I just really liked how short and sweet the first one was. The story is very minimalistic and it has that Spencer Mansion kind of layout where you're running around the same area for the entire game, going back and forth as you unlock new sections. Onimusha 2 is more linear in that sense: you're going through a sequence of mostly linear areas and while you do revisit some (and even revisit some sections from the first game, which I thought was pretty cool), most of them are a one and done kinda deal. It also kinda tones down the horror more than I would've liked. Hell, horror isn't even the right term. It's really more of a spooky atmosphere, which is something I always appreciate. So seeing even that getting toned down was disappointing. Onimusha 1 is very much Feudal Japan Resident Evil but this one feels way closer to just being a sword action game with some demonic stuff in it. At that point, it's basically Devil May Cry without the stylish combat. It also has a bigger focus on story but it has the story of a Japanese action game from 2002, so... yeah... One thing Oni 2 has going for it is a companion system where you can give gifts to some characters and it affects which story route you end up on. So some sections will play out differently depending on which character you have the best relationship with. I think the sections where these companions are playable will vary as well because I only played as one side-character in my playthrough in that one area but other areas had some chests that the protagonist couldn't open. So I'll definitely be doing more runs to see what else can happen. So yeah, it didn't blow me away as much as the original did but it did surprise me a little bit. I really hope they won't wait another 6 years to remaster Onimusha 3. We're halfway there at this point, two games done out of four. Might as well commit. Unless the new Onimusha is an early 2026 release, there should be plenty of time to remaster Onimusha 3 before it comes out. Jean Reno is down, so that's not an issue! After that they can remaster Dawn of Dreams whenever but imho they really need to get Oni 3 out before the new game.
  8. The Invincible This is a game with good elements that just can't seem to get out of its own way. The story is compelling, the environments are gorgeous, and it's clear there was a ton of attention to detail through the entire thing, but everything about interacting with the game is absolutely miserable. All you do is walk and interact with set points, but the walking is too slow (there's a run but you can only do it for about three seconds before running out of stamina), the objectives are poorly communicated, and the whole thing overstays its welcome by half. I want to like this game, but I just can't. Grade: D+ PS: It is very pretty though. (Spoiler tags just for big images.)
  9. I have finally finished Khazan. And yikes. Ultimately I ended up knocking it down to 'easy' and yet even with that extra help, I'd argue that's the hardest soulslike I've ever played. The final boss was all sorts of ridiculous and both exhilarating and frustrating in equal measure. It's done. I can spend time with my children once again, finally start a new book and maybe even start a new videogame. What a time to be alive. If I had to give it a rating (using my own system) I'd give it a 4/5, which is 'Great', although I'd add that for the sort of person who enjoys these games, I think it's basically a must play; just maybe knock it down to 'easy' where it feels much closer to a traditional From game in terms of raw difficulty, although even then, I'd argue it's harder than anything From has produced, even Sekiro.
  10. I have the older model. It's really is fantastic for what it is. With that said, the newer model that you have can have a kettle bell or straight/curl bar attachments! I kind of want to upgrade now lmao On a related note: I recently got a walking pad so I can 10k steps a day while at home. This is far more relevant to my job as sometimes I need to do surveys where I walk/hike 5-10 miles a day.
  11. So over the last year or so I've lost about 23kg in weight. Most of that has come through improvements to my diet, but I've also been moving a little more. Over the last month or two I've been working out. Not much mind you, I don't have much time nor do I have much space, so it's mainly weights and some basic calisthenics; 30-40 minutes a day, 5 days a week. I'm doing this before work, and then going to work (a manual job) so I'm a little tired, but it's worth it. Been using 5kg weights so far and my arms and chest are already feeling a little tighter, more toned. This purchase is the next part of this. They should carry me through the rest of the 'fitness journey'. I can't see myself wanting to lift heavier than 22kg, and if I do, then I imagine it's time to get a gym membership. Sorry kids. So yeah. £229. Money well spent.
  12. Has proper English subs. Context: Taken from an interview with Apple Music 〈Golden Flower of Paradise〉 Jiaquan: "The title of the song is my grandma's real name. My grandma passed away last year. I only learned in recent years that she never had the concept of home from the moment she was born. She was born in a very poor family and was sold to my current grandpa like an object. This was the child bride culture that still existed at that time. She never had the opportunity to plan her future, study or fall in love freely. In the year when my grandma passed away, I encountered the "Amitabha Sutra" which had a profound impact on me during the mourning ceremony. This sutra describes in detail the scene of the Western Paradise after death. The "descending spirit" in this song projects a chance for her to live again, like a golden flower growing again from the soil. In the middle, I also quoted a passage from the "Great Compassion Bodhisattva's Vow": "In a moment, you will be born in the Pure Land." This is also my way of expressing my longing for my grandma."
  13. I'm holding out for OLED, though they could force me to buy an LCD by releasing a new Zelda
  14. RoboCop: Rogue City This game is pretty good, all told. Definitely AA, but it's a decent RoboCop simulator. Took 15.5 hours to beat, it definitely could have stood to be a little shorter. By 8 hours I was looking up how many chapters there were to get an idea of how much time I had left, and was not thrilled to see I was only halfway through. That said, I still enjoyed it overall, it's fun to just have a completely mindless shooting game where you don't even need to worry about taking cover, just walk right up the middle of every area mowing down the bad guys. Grade: C+
  15. That's what I meant by iii) I never did last time out. This time, I might be persuaded to upgrade to OLED mid-gen, but probably not.
  16. 4) They want to double dip with the diehard fans who will buy it twice.
  17. Getting it for Duskbloods, and I have an OG switch, so won't notice a "downgrade" from OLED. Absolutely nuts that they have not launched with OLED, but I guess it is due to either i) it would push the price up another $50-$100; ii) There are supply chain issues with OLED screens; and/or iii) they want to sell LCD screens, and then more OLEDs when they drop.
  18. Onimusha Warlords With the remaster of Onimusha 2 finally coming out this week, I figured I'd give the original a replay since it's really short. I was a little worried that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered but I realized that was dumb pretty much as soon as I started the game. This is a really fun take on the classic RE style of gameplay. It has a few flaws but overall it's still very enjoyable. I'm not sure why I was worried in the first place because I played it for the first time in 2019 when the remaster came out. So, it was already as dated as it's going to get then lol. At the time, I was super bummed out that they didn't seem like they were going to remaster the sequels, so I'm really excited to finally play the second game. Hopefully they'll keep the momentum going this time and will at least remaster Onimusha 3 as well before the new one comes out next year.
  19. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 This game is so goddamned good. It's cliche but I laughed, I cried, I went on a journey with these characters and I love them. I also love the combat from beginning to end, parrying feels so good, and it's so satisfying to see the end battle screen where you took 0 damage because you parried everything. The story is compelling, the world is interesting, everything about it is about as near perfect as you could ever ask. I have some issues with the ending, not so much what actually happens as the way it's presented, but they're not serious enough to mar the wonderful 60 hours I had up to that point. Grade: A+
  20. Well, this thread got terrifying. I know (or rather trust) that you are all sensible people, so the fact that you feel that the increased risk of having a gun in your home (statistically one is more likely to be wounded by a weapon in one's home than a random one belonging to someone else) is necessary due to the current state of affairs is chilling. I hope you are all ok.
  21. Khazan I feel like I've been playing this fucking thing since the dawn of time. And that isn't a good thing. I thought I was close to the end, I was not. I'm roughly half way through, and whilst I am still having fun, I find the entire game to be exhausting in a way that other Soulslikes just aren't. The world design is flat and the levels for the most part look kinda samey. The entire game has this bleak brown/grey look that does nothing to excite the player and the generic enemies are basically just complete fodder and yet they almost always come with a distance enemy to do nothing but annoy you... That said, I'm still enjoying the boss fights, although I will admit that I knocked it down to easy. I was taking 50-60 attempts per boss during the early-mid game and I just don't have that sort of time. So knocked it down to easy and honestly, I think that should be the 'normal' difficulty. It feels much less punishing and more on par with the rest of the sub-genre in terms of overall difficulty; still hard, but the balance has been levelled out. Honestly, the only issue I had with the harder 'normal' difficulty was that the enemies HP pool was ridiculous. I can take the bosses hitting harder than normal because ultimately, it's a game about learning the moveset and figuring out parrying and dodging. No problem with bosses that can fuck you up in one moment. I do think that extreme difficulty coupled with the fact that the bosses have such ridiculous pools of health takes it from a fun challenge into something almost unfair to the player. You have to be perfect (and I mean perfect) for a solid 7-8 minutes just to generate enough damage to get them down to 1/3 of their health and yeah, to me that's just a bit too much. I'm hoping to have this finished in the next week or two. It's starting to weigh on me a little and coming straight off of Dark Souls III I feel like all I've done with my free time since February is play super challenging and very time consuming games. Rhythm Tengoku Or more specifically, an English translation by the name of 'Rhythm Heaven Silver' I've been playing this on my Anbernic RG40XXV as something of a palet cleanser to Khazan and it's kind of delightful. Super cute, very charming and great to just pick up and put down, I'm actually wondering how I missed this game (and the franchise as a whole) for so long. I suck at it. Although, (and this may be wishful thinking) I've read that there may be an issue with regards to latency when emulating, which may explain why my timing is more miss than hit. That said, If I spend a little time tweaking I think I'll be able to sort that out. Super cute - 4/5
  22. Yeah, the DeathAdder felt great at first but it went to shit so quickly that it made me dismiss Razer as worthless junk. The only piece of Razer hardware I've bought since was my Kitsune over a year ago. I don't know if their build quality in general has improved since my DeathAdder but the Kitsune at least seems like quality. I haven't had any issues with it. Although at that price, it better be fucking good lol. My current build is like 90% Corsair and I've beeb pretty happy with it. The mouse I just replaced was also a Corsair but tbh I'm pretty sure a deep cleaning around the wheel with compressed air would've solved the issue. But I already wanted to change it, so it just gave me the excuse I needed.
  23. Every Razer I've ever had felt like a dream for 6-12 months and then turned into a double clicking piece of crap. Using a Logitech Superlight right now. Never tried Corsair but I've heard good things.
  24. I've been wanting to switch to a wireless mouse for some time now and my previous one was starting to drive me nuts so I decided now was the time. I used to think my old Razer DeathAdder that started randomly double clicking or not clicking at all was the most annoying thing a mouse could do, but I stand corrected. A mouse that fights you every time you try to use the scroll wheel is much worse! Scrolling down only for the screen to end up going up instead is absolute maddening. Cleaning around the wheel helped a little for a while but the problem would just come back, so I decided to replace it. Loving this one so far, although it's gonna take some getting used to because it's been a while since I've used a mouse this light. My previous mice sometimes even came with extra weights you could slot into the bottom to make them heavier lol.
  25. It's almost like the video game industry is... doomed, or something. If only we had known.
