Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Holy crap, this game is incredibly intense!
Waldorf and Statler
Ok. Being a 360 user, this is my first experience with this type of game. I was extremely frustrated and decided to call it quits on the game. Today I went to a house full of ps3 user best friends, and they've pretty much convinced me to play as they do. And that way is cheap. What they've recommended me to do, is to basically exploit the game errors and cheap mistakes to my advantage. I would be against this on any other game, but I think Dark Souls WANTS you to be cheap. I started out as a thief who didn't do shit of damage. With my friends' advice I have now: 1. Started as a pyromancer. 2. Gotten to the Red Dragon/Drake on the bridge. 3. Exploited the fact that the dragon kills the skeletons/zombies on the bridge with its fire, and pretty much soul farmed 300 souls per campfire. And there's a shortcut to the nearest campfire right under the drake. 4. Once I get enough souls [i need 20,000 to buy the orb for a door in the gardens that will let you easily grind anywhere from 2000 to 5000 per campfire run then however much more I can get until leveling up starts to cost a lot of souls] I will destroy its tail and get the drake sword. Like everybody else has stressed out, the drake sword is practically necessary to survive in the first few areas of the game. I have one question. Is there any way to spend souls to make your fire spell stronger? Or how do you make spells stronger in general?
Mercurial
You need to find the swamp guy to upgrade your pyromancy flame. Also the INT stat. Edited October 8, 2011 by Hakidia

deanb
I see you posting 'round the net 'bout that Dark Souls game and I'm like Fuck You ooo-ooo-ooo..
MetalCaveman
Decided to abandon my usual spellcaster build in order to get something more focused on strength, so far it's worked well, using a spear + shield combo mostly, also using the gargoyle tail ax and of curse, the drake sword. Has anyone found anything other than titanite ore? I got a shining titanite shard from a crystal lizard but haven't found anything else. excel_excel
The firelink shrine proper starting area is quite the labyrinth, those 2 skeletons in the graveyard are bitches, died 2 twice there now......I started as a thief, really haven't found too many uses for the master key item you get with the class, and I picked the black firebomb as my 'gift'....seems like once all ten run out that's it for my black firebombs? Waldorf and Statler
Yeah. Master key is the best gift imho. I made a pyromancer with it just because everything else seems like it'll waste away after a certain time or has no use whatsoever. And Duke, the best way to kill the boar is to do the same thing I did. First attract as many of the undead in the lower area as you can to the fa away area. Kill them. Then head upstairs and kill the other ones. Ones you've kill those, go down the stairs and try and attract the boar to the bonfire that is next to them. That's what really hurts it. I just lured it down the stairs (right where you first arrive in this area) where it's path would reset and once I had an opening stabbed him a couple of times with the spear, avoid his attack, rinse repeat, and he was dead easily, takes a while, but it's the best way IMO if you don't want to take any damage from his attacks or from the skeletons. I liked that they not tell you anything, you just find out you went the wrong way by dying a bunch of times. Also, I'm pretty sure you can buy/get black firebombs from enemies/merchants(?).
Waldorf and Statler
I'm now done with this game. The Red Dragon in the bridge killed itself with a glitch while I was using it to farm souls, and I never bothered to get the Drake Sword. Fuck this I'm not about to start yet another character and get all the way here again.

Waldorf and Statler
Nah this game just makes me ragequit a lot. I was hoping I could get the black knight sword but not one of the 3 black knights I've killed has dropped it, even when I'm in human form. So now I have a claymore, which isn't too terribly far off from the Drake Sword in damage.I'm farming souls now in the 7000 souls in 2 minutes area so that's nice. I'm gonna get as high of a level as I can.

Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I got the Drake sword, and vanquished the gargoyles on top of the Parish. I am master of death! Waldorf and Statler
Where can you farm "7000 souls in two minutes"? I'm intrigued. You need 20,0000 souls so you can buy this key from the blacksmith near darkroot garden. The door is to the passage to the left in darkroot garden, at the very end. There's a hidden fire/camp right next to it. The best way to get the 20,000 souls is to use the red dragon [the one you get the drake sword from] to scorch the skeletons on top of the bridge. There's a shortcut to the fireplace near the entrance of the town. You probably already kicked down the ladder seeing how far you are. If you've already killed the dragon and don't have anywhere near 20,000 souls, you can still get there by killing the skeletons yourself but this takes much longer as the dragon would kill them all in a matter of seconds. Once you get the key and open the door in darkroot gardens, let me know. I would explain what to do, but there's tons of videos in youtube on how to do it. I went from a level 16 to a level 48 just by rinsing and repeating this method. You gotta love how the only way people are doing so good in this game is by exploiting its easy 'cash' and cheap weapons. To be fair the games' difficulty practically begs you to cheat. That's what I don't like about Demons's Souls. So this is more of the same then? Actually, Demon's Souls kinda had a way of telling you "yeah, go here first" by separating each "world" into different areas, since Dark Souls is open world there's no such thing. I've seen videos of dudes going a certain way right at the beginning of the game where they die pretty much instantaneously. However, some dudes are already trying to figure out what the "natural" progression on this game is, so if you want to avoid an early death you can read about it, I think it takes part of the fun out of the game though. I've been able to kill the Capra Demon, get into the Depths and more without having to farm souls like that. Only "farming" I've done was killing all the dudes in my way from the Undead Parish to the Gargoyle area when I wanted to play co-op with someone. No farming is necessary IMO as long as you have a character build that you're comfortable with. Also, only time I've used the Drake Sword was on my second fight against the Gargoyles, mostly because I forget it exists. Also, I don't want to spend souls repairing it. There's also the fact that I "accidentally" killed the dragon on that bridge before learning you could farm souls there.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
How do you kill the bridge dragon?
BrainHurtBoy...2
It's not necessary for you to do so when you first approach him, but you should at least take off his tail for the sword. Basically, go under the bridge, shoot him, as he swings by on the bridge, hit him with something (a spear is recommended), then repeat. MetalCaveman
If you take the path underneath the bridge where the dragon is, after the room with the rats you climb some stairs that get you to that part with the boar, immediately after climbing the stairs, before going out, you can continue to the top of the tower where a Black Knight is, kill him, prepare your bow, shoot 1 (yes, ONE) arrow into it's head from that tower and that's it, the dragon falls down, and seconds later you get 10k souls. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I ended up waiting for him to drop down and I ran between his legs. He just flew away, and I didn't get the 10k souls! Damn it all! Fortunately, I still got the sword for going to town on his tail. Also, this is an awesome trailer right here. Waldorf and Statler
The dragon killed itself when I was farming him for the 300 souls at a time. By pure luck I was already at 10,000 souls so when he died all I had to do was go buy the orb. MetalCaveman, you might be good enough to beat this game without soul farming, but seeing how EVERYBODY else and their mums are doing what I'm doing it makes it where it's the norm. Admittedly the Capra demon, and the gargoyle fight were WAY too easy when I'm a level 50 something but I gotta say it's worth it just to not die every 5 seconds. Right now I'm farming souls to increase the overall damage of my fireball, then I'm gonna buy another fireball spell so I can have 16 throws per campfire. I've also killed the golden knight that is trapped in the jail cell and the mini-boss [Hovel is his name I think] so I can have their max, equipment increase rings and now I can wear the elite knight armor AND roll around. Somebody has told me that the golden knight is part of the story later on, but I didn't care. That ring of his is too good. I'm gonna fully upgrade my armor and upgrade as much as I can the fireball spell then continue on past the depths. I'm already saving souls so I can buy a crapload of curse cures.
