staySICK
A place to discuss Call of Duty. Current release is blops, or black ops. Or you can just generalise. Post your favorite Multiplayer loadouts, your tag, and make plans for games in this thread. Personally, I'm looking for some additional players on PSN, right now its just a small group of friends from work who play. PSN: staySICK could also use some tips on loadouts though. deanb
I was somewhat surprised. I came into the series late, getting Modern Warfare when it was on sale. It was very short (they've all been short) but pretty high quality. Then a few months back I got hold of a 360 copy of MW2. Twas shit incarnate. Story was OTT for the sake of being PTT and just felt like a string of incoherent set pieces. There was no slowly creeping through Chernobyl, instead I reclaimed the whitehouse from Russians. It just seemed IW had read the reviews, seen folks compliment the scene where you get shot. The nuke moment. And then IW thought "well if they liked that, let's do it more frequently and bigger!" And it just became silly. IF they were actually attempting to have the game be meaningful in anyway they missed the target completely. Yet to play BLOPs, can't get it to run. I'm somewhat hearing good things of the story, so I am interested.
Yantelope
I just got black ops and had to play the first mission 3 times to get past it because of a a glitch. Pretty frustrated by that but other than that it's cool. And yeah, Dean, MW2's "story" was completely incoherent. Fun it was, but incoherent. staySICK
yea, Modern Warfare thus far has been the high point of the series. Holy balls was MW good. And actually, iirc that wasn't Chernobyl exactly, it was Pripyat. Compare the pictures from the op here http://www.nextgenboards.com/vb/general-talk/8215-a-map-in-real-life.html and that level of COD4, especially the fairgrounds. Holy crap. Modern Warfare 2 on the other hand... sucked. HARD. and that trash of multiplayer, luckily I haven't had any issues with Blops multi. Some of that could be the change in format (360 -> PS3), not trying to start a console war, just my thoughts. EDIT: I just noticed that what I intended to be a progression arrow looked like an opinion of console superiority. Ooops.
Chronixal
I've only played Modern Warfare. I really enjoyed it but I can't justify picking up another modern, 'realistic' shooter when they're all pretty samey. Oddly enough, MW1 still has a pretty active online community, which did surprise me given it's now well out of date.
drag
i doubt i'll buy the next one unless they do something different ... i was swayed by blops because it looked like they were doing a lot of things right. and they did, it's a very solid online game, i just got bored with it really quickly despite that. had enough of this type of game now. i'm keeping it though, because it's better to play on your own than bad company 2 is, and i recently discovered the joys of playing using only knives which is challenging and makes things interesting. so whenever i pop back on that's all i'm doing. Heartless
I'm enjoying Codblops a lot, I use it as my go-to when I'm not in the mood for something really substantial. Multiplayer is actually balanced this time around, so no real complaints there. But I won't be buying another title in the series...I can tell my interest in the series is waning. Yantelope
Suddenly I feel like the only person not losing interest in COD.
AusKossy
I never had interest. COD4 was an average game, and the only Call of Duty allowed to be called good; quite a fun shooter in small doses, but I prefer Battlefield and others. World at War was shit except for zombie mode. MW2 was ruined by perks and killstreaks, very shit. And Black Ops is a nice shit that doesn't smell so bad at the start, but its still shit, and you're still paying full-price for basically the exact same experiance you've gotten with every other COD game, except worse. Activision just whored it out waaaaay too much. When RE5 was released, it was marked down for being too similar to RE4. Same with L4D2 > L4D. And yet when we get the same shit with COD for the 4th time, it gets its dick sucked by every reviewer? 'Tards
c hoertjes
I still play MW2 a lot, but I just have so many problems with COD BlOps' multiplayer to keep my interest.
toxicitizen
I must be the only person on the planet to not have had any problem whatsoever with Black Ops? I mean, it was pretty unplayable on launch day. But it got patched that very day (had to verify cache integrity for it to start downloading, so i guess the patch wasn't "officially" released), but it's been playing flawlessly ever since. Are most of you guys playing on consoles or PC?
c hoertjes
360. I'm not talking technical issues, it's gameplay issues for me.

Are most of you guys playing on consoles or PC? I'm playing on PSN, and while the issues have definitey gotten better, it can still be a bit wonky. For the most part the game keeps my party together and I can get into games and such, but host migration tends to cause it problems.
staySICK
I haven't had near the issues with blops as with mw2, like I said. So far most annoying thing has been trying to get everyone partied up, almost always one person can't connect.
toxicitizen
Oh, I see. Hadn't really considered that stuff since the PC version has dedicated servers, so it's pretty much never going to be a problem. I still hear a lot of complaining from the PC crowd, though. TheForgetfulBrain
I came aboard the series at World at War, when Treyarch had the multiplayer Beta on the consoles (something they REALLY should have had for Black Ops). Got hooked, loved the game, loved zombies. Ended up buying it for 360 and PS3 just to play it with different friends. Didn't much touch the single player, however - it didn't really hold my attention. Later bought MW for the PS3 and PC, but preferred WaW's multiplayer (believe it or not). Still need to finish the Single Player - the 'modern war' setting just isn't too appealing to me, in terms of subject matter. Bought MW2 for the multiplayer (never once touched single player) and enjoyed it quite a bit, prestiged for the first time. Even joined a clan (F*gs with Guns, a gay gaming group - I'm not gay, but I figured it would be a good place to go to try and avoid the rampant bigotry I kept running into in random matches). Xbox died though, and then my disc got scratched, so that was it for me till Black Ops. Black Ops I got on the PC - and aside from all the rampant PC multiplayer issues, it's been great. First CoD game I've finished the single player in - the more 'blockbuster-almost-sci-fi' story appealed to me more (yep) and I'm a sucker for Sam Worthington, shoddy accent or no). I'm actually renting a server for Kotakuites folks - Dean's got it listed on the Steam page - but it's been an utter failure. Empty all the time, as getting enough Kotakuites folks that play Black Ops together has not been successful. I bought it for three months though, so I'll probably give it a more serious try at some point.
AcidCrownie
I'm a sucker for Sam Worthington I thought I was the only one.
TheForgetfulBrain
I thought I was the only one. Call of Duty, like Avatar, like Sam Worthington - all very easy to hate on. Hard to love. But we do. Oh, we do.
Yantelope
I do love Call of Duty, Sam Worthington's cool, Avatar was derivative but pretty. I do understand the criticism that COD is always the same game. I just like it so much that I don't really care. It's kind of like how GTA always gets great reviews despite always being the same game. Maybe COD doesn't deserve the critical praise it gets but it's just so much fun I don't really care. Heartless
I thought it was just me but there are news reports surfacing about the 1.04 patch utterly breaking the PS3's multiplayer. I can get into a game on my own, but the moment I try to host/join a party the game locks up, freezes, boots me from games, gets me stuck on loading screens. Like, holy shit. The PS3 version had a problem with migrating hosts before but now everything is just hopelessly broken. What the fuck. I can only play online without a party, or play Zombies. Chewblaha
I traded Black Ops in for 43 bucks. Has no soul to it. Everything feels like it was just developed badly. The grenade throwing feels off, takes many bullets to get a kill. I don't like it. Modern Warfare 2 may have had it's problems with the online community and little nitpicky shit, but at least the game FELT right. I thought Modern Warfare was a step in the right direction after the goatfuck that was CoD3, but now Black Ops is out and really a majority of people only purchased it for the damn zombies. GameStop made a pie chart for us of the number of reservations after the zombies had been announced. Meh. CoD 2 is still the best one. Yantelope
I just beat Black ops this morning. The whole "fight club" twist at the end was completely non-surprising. It's also very very old. Time to put that one into the tropes that need to die next to the guy on the radio betraying you.
staySICK
Chew, were you talking about campaign when you said it took too many bullets to kill? I haven't noticed that in multiplayer. Really the biggest issue I'm having with blops multi on PSN is host migration. Especially annoying when a match starts up, you don't even get a chance to move, and someone quits and you get kicked to the lobby / host migration screen. AAAGH. I'm spoiled by Halo matchmaking, I guess.
Heartless
staySICK, add me to your PSN friends list. I just beat Black ops this morning. The whole "fight club" twist at the end was completely non-surprising. It's also very very old. Time to put that one into the tropes that need to die next to the guy on the radio betraying you. Not to mention the fact that they projected that "twist" way ahead of time and it was very thinly veiled. I also was highly annoyed by the torture scene in Hong Kong...you shove glass in this guy's mouth and punch him in the face and 20 seconds later he can speak just fine? Yeah, okay. c hoertjes
I'm sure Cheew meant multi when talking about it taking too many bullets to kill someone b/c I fucking agree. Holy shit it's bad. Sometimes it'll take 5-6 bursts from the M16 to take someone down, and these are center mass shots. In MW2, one burst in the upper torso is an insta-kill, and that's the way it should be. I've pumped an entire SMG clip into someone in BlOps, and they weren't killed. It's absolutely dreadful. There is no weight to the guns at all, they feel like NERF guns.
