  1. Hey, at least it isn't the first 2 or so hours of KH2! I've been getting back into Etrian Odyssey IV. I've clawed my way to the third major boss, but I'm kinda afraid to go in and fight him. I've learned the hard way that just because I CAN fight a boss doesn't mean I'm prepared to fight that boss. There are still a couple of quests to be done in the snow area, I think I'll mop those all up first just to be sure.
  2. Negative. Platinum is still free to make any game with any publisher. Nintendo picked them for Wonderful 101, and at around the same time SEGA dropped Bayonetta 2 and since they were already working on something together Platinum ran it by Nintendo and they picked it up. And once both those games flop Platinum will be back to self publishing or whoring themselves out to other publishers. Because both games WILL be flops, and Nintendo will wisely move on just like every other publisher that's worked with Platinum. We know SEGA passed on Bayonetta 2 because they had exclusive first dibs on the IP. That it was originally pitched for competing hardware is pure speculation on my part... but I feel like that's a pretty safe bet.
  3. Not AS niche, but it's still not so large that many publishers are feeling the need to get in on that action. I mean, Capcom rebooted DmC for the West and it didn't do great in Japan, Wonderful 101 is a flop, and SEGA wouldn't fund Bayonetta 2 even for Xbox/Playstation. It wouldn't have been made at all except that Nintendo was feeling pressure to waste money for some hardcore gamer cred (pro tip: don't even bother). The only other recent genre entry I can think of is El Shaddai, and that was ALSO a flop.
  4. Sales will determine if the franchise has peaked or not - the franchise has been taking a beating in the court of internet dwellers' public opinion for over a decade now. As long as it remains approximately as popular as Jesus Christ in South America with the kiddies, it will thrive.
  5. Of course this is gonna be a flop. It's a Japanese action game (niche), it's a new IP (never a good idea), it's from Platinum games (the most acclaimed flop maker in the industry), and it's exclusive to a console with a tiny install base. I mean, did anyone ever entertain the possibility of this NOT being a flop? I didn't.
  6. Just started Total War Rome 2. GOH was right, it seems pretty cool. But why the HELL can't I save in the turn based macro map?

There's a save button there, but when I hover over it, it tells me I can't when I'm in the tactical map or something like that. So maybe there's a mode swap or something I haven't gotten to in the tutorials yet. It's my first Total War game.

    3. Mr. GOH!

      Mr. GOH!

It's just disabled for the tutorial.

Well the kids market is always gonna be something Nintendo invests a lot in. Their IP are super well suited to that crowd, the competition to make quality kids games tends to be pretty weak, and Nintendo's honestly just really GOOD at this. They've got marketing to 6-12 year olds down to a science.

Well, there's the response. It's really important for Nintendo handhelds to be the cheapest on the market, because a lot of their money comes in from games that are hits with kids. So they had a problem. This holiday season they have a big new Pokemon game coming and a big new Monster Hunter game coming. These games have the potential to dominate Japanese and American schoolyards capturing kiddie's hearts and minds. But that doesn't happen if parents are buying their children different hardware, like the newly $200 playstation Vita. With this Nintendo clearly takes back the best value at $130 and I believe they made it sturdier too? I read that at least, and if so that's another bonus for the younger kid crowd.
  9. Is there anyone here who plays pokemon? And has a Victini? That they'll trade to me? I want one of those bad

TCP YOU NEED TO GET BACK TO ME BEFORE THIS IS SHUFFLED BELOW THE BOTTOM OF THE STATUS BAR!

  10. I... wouldn't hold my breath for an eventual Persona 5 to tell it's story in a way other than a "giant static drawing alongside a textbox in the bottom". It's possible mind, and Catherine showed that the team was looking into more dynamic cinematic scenes... but if the amount of narrative content in P5 is ANYWHERE in the ballpark of other Persona titles then it's inevitable that there's gonna be an awful lot of dialogue box scrolling.

Mister Jack, the purchases you seek are Crimson Shroud, Pushmo, Attack of the Friday Monsters, Puzzle Quest, the story based Fire Emblem DLC, the Oracle Zelda games, and Zen Pinball. Those are the eShop downloads I've made that are awesome. I've gotten the absolute most value out of Puzzle Quest. Bejewled is on there too. The eShop downloads I've made that are not awesome include Sakura Samurai and that Pokedex app thing. Stay away from those. The eShop downloads I'm interested in but haven't bitten on yet include Kokuga, Picross, and Steamworld Dig. Those three come highly recommended, but for one reason or another I haven't gotten around to them yet.
  13. That's good! Power creep is bad. And it would have boggled the mind if Pokemon had managed to resist the allure of power creep for so long but then NOW all of a sudden decided "We need to make MEGA POKEMON or we'll lose the kiddies".

It's interesting, this isn't the first I've seen this mentality. There are those who would be THRILLED if Smash Brothers was taken away from it's progenitor so Sakurai would stop "ruining the franchise". And yes, a lot of the things that people didn't like in Metroid Other M came directly from Mr. Sakamoto, also known as the guy who made metroid. I tend to be unsympathetic to such views. Regardless of what product comes from it, I wish I lived in a world where games could be a reflection of individuals, and if those individuals change or were never happy with what everyone else thought of as a "masterpiece" then they should keep chasing that original muse. Better that these games release and are polarizing and reflect the auteurs who came up with them than that they get absorbed into the homogenized whole of Nintendo EAD.
  15. Ace Attorney/Layton was definitely a new announcement. There is a zero percent chance I would have missed that. I have been watching like a HAWK for this game to get localized. I am more excited about this game than maybe any other game that is announced to exist but isn't available yet. I'm aware that I'm putting it above a new Xeno RPG and Rayman Legends. I'm THAT excited.
  16. 10/10 Best Nintendo Direct Ever because Ace Attorney/Professor Layton. Seriously though, that one announcement aside it was exactly what I expected. The pre holiday season Nintendo Direct to try and sell their holiday season releases. I guess they'll do another one later for DKC/Mario World/whatever else lands near the very end of the year, but most everything else was present and accounted for. Zelda? Check. Virtual Console? Check. Weird eShop games? Check. It was everything an August Nintendo Direct would normally be, and then they threw a bone to the video game enthusiasts watching with a niche game announcement at the very end.
  17. You can! Put your bells in the bank account, and then leave your system for a year. Don't even need to keep the system in sleep mode
  18. For some reason, my 3DS clock is ahead 48 hours. I discovered that after setting up my Animal Crossing town because hell, I'd never had reason to look at the date on the 3DS previously. And now that I'm playing Animal Crossing daily, I don't wanna mess with the settings. I like to keep my continuity intact. So what this means is that I got to enjoy the first seasonal Fireworks festival last night! It was thoroughly delightful. Also, the missing Elise is getting replaced today! Can't wait to see what sort of animal has moved in now!
  19. In an update from the town of Horizon: Elise the Monkey moved out. Good riddance. She was never my preferred neighbor. Muffy has been promoted to least favorite animal companion in Elise's absence. I got beautiful blue hybrid violets! I love my blue hybrids so. I have almost 300,000 bells saved up in my bank account. I could pay off either my mortgage or my town police station with that money... but I kinda just wanna leave it there for now. I'm in no rush. I've decided that my downstairs shall be a pirate treasure cave, and my upstairs a study. I've changed my outfit to suit the season. Giant sunglasses, bright red hair, and a fern T shirt. Today Timmy and Tommy started selling sparklers and other summer festival noisemakers. I'm hoarding them to blow them all on Fireworks night this Sunday. Today Muffy suggested a yield sign as a new public works project. Really Muffy? Come on now. And lastly, I got my second bridge built! Navigation is now 60% more convenient. P.S. I got impatient and dug up Filbert's time capsule and then he FINALLY asked for it the VERY NEXT DAY. I wanted to kill myself I felt so guilty.
  20. I really like this game, but I prefer Fire Emblem. The 3DS Fire Emblem really is one of the best games Nintendo has made. Easily the best Fire Emblem, maybe the best game from Intelligent Systems period. Also, there's a new Etrian Odyssey coming out in just a month or two so if you sit tight I'll betcha you can find a deal on EO IV after the new one drops.
  21. There is a market, but because of an item duplication bug that's been discovered it's kinda shot to hell right now. My recommendation is to steer clear.
  22. There's gonna be four full movies. Each one covering the events of one season of the year long endeavor that is Persona 3.
  23. Hooray. I bought all the Prince of Persia games so I can replay every single one of them. They are all wonderful :)

Neat, I need to start playing those games soon! Steam didn't show the controller icon on them so I wasn't sure.

Well I needed to go into control settings and map each input manually. But that takes two minutes. Just copied a suggested controller layout from steam forums.

  24. I spent a TON of time in Redd's today looking for telltale signs of forgery like you guys said would be there, and I could find nothing. Nothing at all.
  25. I'm not certain Animal Crossing can take externally generated QR codes. I think it can only take images generated from other Animal Crossings. So no imports of objectionable internet images in Nintendo's safe Animal Crossing bubble. Pubescent boys will need to draw their own.
