American storytelling is amusingly simplistic. Anytime you need a faceless, one dimensional "evil dude", use a Russian. Xenophobic? Who gives a shit, I'm trying to write a story here and I don't wanna put the effort in!

Finnish Director, so not entirely accurate to lay this on the Americans. As long as everyone remembers that this is just one (somewhat biased) side of the story, then I don't think there is any need for anyone to die of cancer. As for using Russians as the bad guys... well, yeah, it was the Russians, Georgians and Ossettians who were involved in the conflict. You couldn't exactly use a Brit could you?
