    Just got Windows 7 to boot. Cautiously optimistic. Still lost as to how to sort my phone though. Factory reset did nothing. It's as if someone is using the touchscreen even when it's idle.

      Well, it's not impossible then, and as I understand, Android is a complicated mix of a lot of processes, so it may have many places to hide... I don't know how effective they are, but I think there are at least a few antivirus apps on that platform?

      I guess maybe even a detailed script virus could set itself up to be synced on? Dunno how syncing works on Android, but I remember even 13 years ago, the "Love Bug" was just a VBScript, but took a stab at default installation spots for IRC clients to spread itself in addition to taking over Outlook... I had a copy that I looked inside and it had a section for saving mIRC .ini files.

      Yeah, I had the AVG antivirus for it and that didn't pick up anything when I finally got it to do a scan. Certainly wasn't expecting for my phone to get hit but I have to say, I've rarely seen an infection take hold so efficiently. In seconds, I had a payload of viruses on both OSes and apparently my phone too.
