By default iOS grants more permissions and you don't touch them. Android asks the user, but they don't curate apps - which is great, until one applies an exploit to grant itself more access than you allowed it.

Ultimately, I'm not saying this will hit every user - just that it's more likely to on that platform than others. And it's a tradeoff: Android is obviously more flexible than iOS - and a non-smartphone is way safer than an iPhone - it depends where you want to...

...strike the balance of freedom, security and usability (which don't have to be opposed... but typically are.)

If an app on Android has a known exploit it's not likely to be used. These get removed before they become huge problems.
