So... are Gawker editors bloggers or journalists. I'm still not sure, because, boy are they unprofessional.

They're journalists when they want to be taken seriously. They're editors when they don't WANT to be journalists and just want to talk about their opinions without disguising it. They're "bloggers" when they want to say random/stupid/inflammatory shit and don't want to take the flak for it.
Or, as Battra said, they are what they feel is most convenient for them at that point in time.

Some are better trained and/or more professional than others. Stephen Totilo is a blogger with journalistic skills and integrity imo. Of course, nobody is perfect either.

They're doing a journalists job, but they're not journalists. In the eyes of the law they supposedly are. tl;dr: They're incompetent.
