Long story short, I do a paid internship last summer and my financial aid office is being a bunch of assdicks telling me that they're taking away my aid because they consider that "income". I tell them I spent all my income over there since silicon valley is kind of fucking expensive to live in, they tell me they want nothing less than proof of every single purchase I made there. what in the fuck? What about the whole "work-study" aid thing? I'm not very knowledgeable on it, but as far as I understand an "internship" counts as a "work-study" activity, you may not be working directly for the school, but it only proves that you're in dire need of money.
