Arkham Asylum and Arkham City both got GFWL patched out in favor of Steamworks. That's pretty cool. Not so cool is losing my 60+ hours AC save. That one kinda pisses me off. I was almost halfway through that fucking Calendar Man achievement and had almost everything 100%. Just had a few challenge rooms left. Now it's all gone.

Well, I don't know if the file was ever kept locally in the GFWL directory but it turned out there was a copy of it still in the Steam cloud folder. So I backed it up and re-updated the game.
Some guy on the game's community hub said he's looking into a way of converting it so maybe not all hope is lost!

GFWL encrypts your save. It's one of the main reasons folks hated it as the profile would sometimes just forget what encryption it used on your save and you'd have a nice greyed out Load in Fallout 3.

Yup, and that encryption turned out to be nothing more than a header in the file. Some guy on the Steam hub figured out which bit to remove. So 2 seconds in a HEX editor and boom: save restored! The hard part was getting Steam Cloud to sync it right but I think I'm good now.
