Well I've made some arrangements at school and will be taking my first introductory programming classes next semester! Should give me a slight edge for when I start my "proper" CS program. Kind of excited but a bit nervous at the same time. If it turns out I hate it or am terrible at it, then I'll have to rethink my whole plan and I have no idea what I'd switch to!

I'd probably go that route. I enjoy using SQL and learned Basic back in 8th grade (during the late 80's - I'm old). Those were always easy and fun for me. PLC programming kinda hits that middle ground, and you get to set up networks and play with topology. Way more fun than Accounting.

Thanks, always good to know about as many options as possible! And yeah, I understand that learning programming is a lot of work. I've done my basic research on the subject so I think I'm past the point where I can get scared away that easily

I'm also aware of the nature of the games industry, so I realize it's possible I'll just hate it and want to find something in another field. Still feel like it's something I have to at least try, though.

Well, I wish you luck. If you can come up with original ideas, there may never have been such a good opportunity for indie game dev now - it's hard until you get your big break, but an iPhone hit can catapult you to fame. I've thrown around a few ideas for games; my skill is just more broad than deep - can use a dozen or so languages, but hardly ever touched APIs and never really mastered one particular language since I just do it for fun.
