  1. I imagine she dyed her hair because she was on the run.
  2. Ok so I finished my rewatch earlier this week. Captain America: Civil War - HOLDS UP. I forgot how much Ant-Man and Spider-Man steal the show. Every line they have is ace. Doctor Strange - I had kind of forgot about this one but it HOLDS UP. It's so psychedelic it's shocking it got made in the first place. It kind of follows the Iron Man 1 course in some ways but the tonal differences make up for it Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 - I actually watched this one in March and I couldn't bring myself to watch it again a month later. I think it suffers from what Age of Ultron suffered from, but worse. It just doesn't do anything better than the first one and doesn't try to be a different movie. It's just more of the same. Maybe after Infinity War they can add some other MCU characters to the cast (like Hulk in Thor Ragnarok) to mix this up a bit. Doesn't hold up. Spider-Man Homecoming - This film HOLDS UP. Ok we're getting into really recent films here. I liked this film on the first watch but I think watching it within context of the rest of the MCU made it even better. Tom Holland is perfect casting. Honestly, it's the only Spider-Man movie that felt like what Spider-Man should feel like. Thor Ragnarok - This film from a few months ago HOLDS UP. It's the perfect way to do a Marvel sequel. Just like how Thor The Dark World took the serious parts of Thor 1 and built the film off form that, this film takes all the best parts of Thor and turns it into an action comedy. Less is more sometimes, that counts for a lot of things, including runtime. Black Panther - ??? Avengers Infinity War - This film HOLDS UP. Oh wait. This film is a wild ride and it has so many great things going on that I completely forgive it for not really working at all as a standalone film. If this was just a standard sequel to a normal (by that I mean franchises that don't have 19 films) it wouldn't have even half the characters. Not to mention it's clearly a part 1 of a 2 part story (Deathly Hallows, the last Hunger Games, etc). But FUCK IT I got to see The Winter Soldier spin Rocket Raccoon around as they both fired assault guns at aliens. Where is the best picture nomination? I will now rank the MCU, now that I have a fresh perspective. God Thanos Tier: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Black Panther Thor: Ragnarok Avengers: Infinity War Spider-Man: Homecoming A tier: Captain America: Civil War Guardians of the Galaxy The Avengers Doctor Strange Ant-Man Iron Man 3 B tier: Iron Man Avengers: Age of Ultron C tier: Captain America: The First Avenger Thor Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 F tier: The Incredible Hulk Iron Man 2 Thor: The Dark World
  3. I got about half way through NNK2 and just couldn't finish it. I do like the side stuff with the army battles and the kingdom building. Evan go fuck off and die though.
  4. Far Cry 5. That was one of the worst endings to an otherwise good game. It was just stupid. I know Far Cry is about stupid but this was bad stupid not good stupid. Truthfully, as others have mentioned the story kind of sucked. During the last brother's story sequence I just ended up skipping the cut scenes entirely. It didn't help that the main story missions in the north area is super repetitive. In fact, the way the game is structured didn't really work with me. I like the idea of pissing off the cult enough that they hunt you but there's no escaping it and the game doesn't care if you're just meters away from a new Prepper Stash or half way through a side quest, it'll pull you out and throw you into a long cut scene followed by a frustrating mission. Otherwise, the game is great. The side quests are usually fun. The game play loop is fun. Hunting and fishing is great. Montana is beautiful. I'm actually pretty excited, I'm going to Montana this summer, to a city called Missoula which they mention in the opening is only an hour away. Hopefully no cults take control of the area while I'm there, as a left leaning Canadian, I'd be the first to be murdered. It just felt like this game had something to say about Christianity and right wing middle Americans, but then it chickened out.
  5. Phase 2 DONE This was the phase I was most interested in rewatching as some of films I didn't remember as well as phase 1. Here's my observations / nitpicks. Iron Man 3: HOLDS UP. I always liked IM3 but I think it's a better movie than it gets credit for. Upset fanboys pissed about what happened with the Mandarin derailed the conversation about his film. But it's a legitimately great twist and the MCU doesn't have too many twists. A couple random thoughts: I still don't get why it's Christmas, this movie had a HEAVY Christmas vibe, it feels like it came out 5 months late. The kid sucks (apparently he's coming back for Infinity War??) but his and Tony's relationship is great. The scene with the people falling out of Air Force One and Iron Man saving them is pretty great and maybe one of the best action sequences in the MCU up to this point. I don't understand why Alrich Killian is evil or what his motivations are but you can say that about a love of MCU villains... especially in this phase. Thor The Dark World: Fuck everything about this movie. I knew it wasn't good but it's aged horribly especially after Ragnarok. They took all the wrong lessons from Thor 1. Remember I said the worst part of Thor was when it took itself too seriously instead of having fun? Well that's all this movie is. And it fucking sucks for it. A bleak CG fest with a bad villain, waste of the 9th Doctor. At least not all the shots are dutch tilts. Fuck this film. Captain America The Winter Soldier: HOLDS UP. Great film and you know it. Guardians of the Galaxy: HOLDS UP. What a one two punch with TWS and GotG. Avengers Age of Ultron: You know what. HOLDS UP. This film gets a lot of hate but I don't mind it. It's just didn't do much different than the first Avengers so it feels a little weak in comparison. The Avengers are really only a thing for the third act of the first film so it's cool seeing them working together right from the get go of this movie. Plus it has some great Whedonesque moment (the party at Stark Tower is all great). Too bad it gets over shadowed by Civil War. CA:TWS and this film are really when these movies start feeling like they're all part of a universe instead of just 4 stand alone films plus a crossover film every phase. Ant-Man: According to Wikipedia this is phase 2?? Ok well... HOLDS UP! This is the most stereotypical Marvel film of them all. It has great characters and great action but a weak villain. But it floats on thanks to Paul Rudd and Michael Pena. That opening scene is great too.
  6. I MADE MY FIRST MEME OFF THIS ARGUMENT. That was terrible, I'm sorry.
  7. Just because you like Splinter Cell a lot doesn't mean Sam Fisher is iconic. Face it, it's a B level franchise!!! We haven't had a good argument in a while. This was good. But seriously, B level franchise. Also @TheMightyEthan why did I get a notification from you saying you mentioned me in this thread? Did you delete your post? What are you trying to hide?!?!
  8. I mean yeah but I feel like you can't judge Metal Gear for Survive. We're only a few years past The Phantom Pain which is the series' best game.
  9. Lol ok Splinter Cell is more iconic than something from Assassin's Creed?! Hell you could argue that the fucking Rabbids are more iconic than fucking Splinter Cell. Hey FLD, what's it like LIVING IN BIZARRO WORLD!?!
  10. Ok so here's where I'm at with this: 1) your post says nothing about Sam Fisher. 2) The video doesn't say anything about Sam Fisher. 3) I've never played Splinter Cell because why would I play the poor man's Metal Gear? So how am I suppose to recognize a voice as Sam Fisher. 4) All I was asking was for you to KINDLY explain your cryptic AF post. 5) I HATE YOUR GUTS
  11. I have studied your post multiple times now and yet I do not see "crossover" anywhere.
  12. So in preparation for Infinity War I have been doing a MCU rewatch. I just finished (most of) phase one, it's been a few years and it was interesting to see the origins of everything. Iron Man - This film holds up. Though it's strange the things you forget. Like Rhodey is played by Terence Howard who kind of sucks. Or things like, after Tony, Pepper, Obidiah, and Rhodey, one of the secondary characters with the most amount of screen time is a reporter from Variety Fair. Watching it now, I don't think it's as compelling as a Black Panther or Spider-Man Homecoming but is still an impressive first entry right out the gates. The Incredible Hulk - Gotta be honest, I couldn't bring myself to watch this one. Doesn't really connect with the other films due to Ed Norton getting recast and Marvel kind of sweeping this one under the rug. IIRC Tony Stark shows up in the post-credits scene but it looks like he's recruiting Thunderbolt Ross which still doesn't make sense. Iron Man 2 - This film does not hold up. The bad stuff is somehow worse than I remember. Tony competing in Nascar (or whatever it was) felt too showy. Rhodey and Tony fighting to "It Takes Two" is just pure cringe. Justin Hammer is annoying. Mickey Rourke is really bad. It feels like a film where they took the wrong lessons from IM1 and cranked the parts up that didn't need to be cranked, instead of relying on cool robot suits and RDJ's natural charisma. This was a weird era for Marvel. Lately they've been on such a kick with hiring the perfect writers/directors for their projects, Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, Russo Bros, you forget that while this movie was directed by Jon Favreau who obviously did good with IM1, it was written by the fucking dad-cop from The Leftovers. What? Literally his only writing credit previously was Tropic Thunder. No proper screenwriters wanted a crack at an Iron Man movie? It's too bad it's such a wreck of a film since it's the only movie of phase one that feels like it's part of a shared universe (besides obviously The Avengers). Black Widow is great. Nick Fury is great. Coulson ties into Thor really well. You even have young Peter Parker, allegedly. Thor - There's definitely times where you can feel the elements Taika Watiti lifted for Ragnarok, and then there's other times where the film just takes itself too fucking serious. Never let Gilderoy Lockheart direct a movie... Seriously, why are 90% of the shots in this film dutch tilts? There's no reason for it!!! It's hard to watch and distracts from great performances from Hemsworth and Hiddleston. Captain America: The First Avenger - Wouldn't Thor technically be the first Avenger since he was born in the 900s? Anyways, this film is the weakest of the Captain America films but it's fun. It does drag on a lot with Cap going on tour before getting to Europe. I can't help but feel like if Cap got to WW2 a little faster we could have more time with Bucky which would make his death more impactful. And probably make the Winter Soldier stuff in the later movies more impactful. For the most part the technique they used to make Chris Evans look smaller in the opening act still looks great. Over all this film holds up as much as it can. The Avengers - This film holds up. While the movie itself isn't necessarily the GOAT it does have spectacularly great moments. None you won't remember, like "I'm always angry *Hulk transformation*" and stuff like that, but they're still great now. It's a movie with a lot of heart and charisma that I'm now very curious if Age of Ultron has as well. One thing I didn't notice at the time that now sticks out like a sore thumb is how much the second act slows. First act moves at a great pace, Loki steals the cube, all the Avengers are recruited, Loki turns up in Germany, Cap and Iron Man team up to arrest him, Thor shows up and they duke it out a bit. But as soon as they all get on the Hellicarrier the film grinds to a halt. It's basically 45 minutes of people talking to each other until Hawkeye shows up. That's not necessarily bad but I can't help but feel they could have mixed it up a bit. Onwards to ...ugh.. Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.
  13. Oh man that person on the side who is touching the screen of the Switch is pure evil.
  14. If we're getting '90s Coulson this seems like the best opportunity to bring in Melinda May.
  15. Spirited Away So my wife, when we were just dating, really wanted me to watch this movie with her, probably back in 2009 or 2010. I had agreed but on a night I knew I was really tired and would fall asleep (gentlemen, this might seem like a brilliant move but it actually really pisses her off, I can't recommend it. I also did this with Trainspotting, one of her favourite films and she's still pissed about that). Fast forward to 2018, it comes up in conversation and we end up watching it on Saturday. I have to say it actually wasn't that bad at all. It reminded me of what a Disney film would look like from Japan, minus musicals, and princesses. But it was beautifully animated (despite the fact that they clearly based their composition for 4x3 screens, so not a lot was going on in the far left and the right and as soon as I realized it, it annoyed me because shots would all be very centre heavy and not follow the rules of third BUT I digress). It was made by a company called Studio Ghibli who I guess helped out on the first Ni No Kuni, not sure why they aren't involved with Ni No Kuni 2. I have to recommend it if you want a family friendly film.
  16. Portlandia finished tonight (at least in Canada, I think it airs a few days earlier in the US??). I'm glad they got The Mayor in such a big role for the last episode and his ending was great. Some episodes aren't as strong as other but over 8 seasons I think it might go down as one of my favourite sketch comedy shows.
  17. This arrived today: Funnily enough I'm going to Montana this summer, Missoula which they talk about in the opening and doesn't sound far from here. Hopefully I don't run into any Christian extremists. I played the opening and liberated the first area, feels a lot like Far Cry, without crafting. I got real into Far Cry 4 and Primal (I believe I platinumed both) and I could feel this one starting to sink it's teeth into me, but I'll probably put it on the backburner for now until I get through Ni No Kuni 2. 2018 is the year of TCP playing games again. Last year I basically 100% Zelda twice until Mario Odyssey came out, the year before that I just played Pokemon. Nice to be back with console games again!
  18. I can't believe Rise of the Tombraider came out 20 years ago!
  19. Fringe is a great series! I also love this scene, it's clearly filmed in Science World, I use to go there all the time when I was little. Never got to meet a mad fringe scientist though
  20. Got a 20% off code on PSN. I've been itching for another RPG since I beat Persona 5 earlier this week.
  21. This is my favourite post ever.
