  1. I personally think that no game is worth 60€, not even 50€ and I think that piracy would drop significantly if AAA titles were priced at 30€ - 40€ max. Since Steam and the huge number of great indie games especially, since there is no need anymore to pay 50€ to have fun for a long time. 50€ for me is a really large sum of money even though at the moment I could afford a lot of games I don't think I will spend that amount for a single game. It's hard to explain but for me no game feels like it's worth so much money.
  2. Epic response to Jen's horrible Kotaku editorial: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/07/editorial-why-i-love-pro-gaming/

Not only that but it's something Kotaku is getting the blame for rather than this dimwit editor who did a half-assed editorial piece.

One thing I find interesting is that most of the responses are about SC2... but what about the rest of pro-gaming?

In the PC Gamer editorial the writer correctly says that not all games are good as e-sports. FPS games don't work because there is no good way to spectate a match. The best games for e-sports are actually RTSs and RTS-like games for the following reasons:

      1. Spectating is easy. You have a good view of what's happening, without the hectic movements the actual player sees.

      2. In SC2 as a spectator you know more than the two players and that creates an interesting sense of tens...

Oh I forgot the last line: And since SC2 is the best balanced game of this kind it is atm the best-suited as an e-sport.

  3. You guys remember how I won the SSD in the PC Gamer contest? After 3.5 weeks it arrived today. Finally! I don't know what was taking the psotal service so long. Now I can't wait to get home to migrate Windows over...

  4. Anyone playing League of Legends here? Add me! I need more good players in my friendslist after I just lost a bot match with 4 strangers.

  5. So has anyone tried this Spiral Knights thing? It's completely unplayable on my machine that played Crysis 2 on Hardcore settings. Mini-freezes every 5-10 seconds.

It's okay for what it does. I would say that the game is quite literally built to be casual. Just exhaust the daily energy supply and go on your merry way to enjoy other things in your day.

Actually, when you get far enough into the game you can afford your own energy plus whatever is left.

I played it for quite a while, but it didn't really suit my tastes. I'm too used to doing almost 5-hours shifts playing MMOs, so this was a startling turn for me.

  6. Just won a 120 GB Intel SSD in a PC Gamer competition. :D So happy!

I bought a Logitech MX510 6 and a half years ago and it's still working great. The from factor is perfect imo and should this thing ever break I will replace it with a MX518 I think. The only thing that sucks is Logitech's long-time support. Neither my keyboard nor my mouse are officially supported anymore so the drivers don't work very well with Win7.
  8. I couldn't vote PC only because I had to answer the upper poll aswell, so I ticked Gamboy because I used to have one. I'm happy with only my PC but some day i'm gonna get a portable console, perhaps the NGP, depending on its price.

    Steam

My numbers where both including the pre-order bonus...

    Steam

What? Where? From Germany on Steam it's 45€ or 80€ for the two-pack.
  11. Well then, thank you all very, very much for your help and if you want to play some games some time after tuesday just add me on Steam (id: umfk, or see Steam thread). I will order the parts tonight. (The shop charges no shipping when you order between midnight and 6 am.)
  12. Sigh, Kovach_, now you completely confused me. I guess it's true that I could get a Sandy Bridge/DDR3/6850 system for about 550€. But in the long run I think I save more money by using my old parts (MB, CPU cooler, RAM) for as long as possible. And I expect this PC to serve me longer than 2 years, I usually start looking for an upgrade only if the games start to look really terrible . Can anyone answer my question regarding the RAM? Is it more important to use the same brand or the same specs? Both my old RAM and the one in the picture are PC2-6400 with timings 4-4-4-12. They should work fine together although 2 are from Corsair and 2 from Kingston, right? @Johnny At some point you usually have to upgrade almost all your hardware parts because of a change in technology.
  13. So for 450€ you think you can put together a significantly better PC including a new Motherboard? Show me how
  14. I tried to get the same RAM but the Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 that they sell has a CL of 5 instead of 4. I don't think they produce the RAM I have in there anymore. So I thought it's more important to have the same timings than the same brand. Am I correct? Netzteil is the German word for PSU, the comments seem to agree that it's a good PSU and I also found some in-depth reviews that concluded the same. (The full name is actually "650W Rasurbo GaminX & Power GAP656 V2") Seems to be a small German company that makes quality PSUs but includes no manual, no accessories etc. and can therefore sell them for a low price. @Kovach_ I think this upgrade would get me very far and would push the inevitable completely new rig a few years away. And I think 300€ is actually a really good deal for the huge improvement I'm expecting.
