Yeah I find it weird. They want you to renew the lease before mid december. My thoughts are that more people are leaving than they desire or the lease is actually getting cheaper and they want to trick you.

My old apartment complex would offer $100 Visa gift cards if you renewed early. I think it's just so that they can be sure how many apartments they're going to have to rent out the next year.

If you were gonna renew anyway there's no reason /not/ to do it.
