I went to the Burj Khalifa yesterday, world's tallest man made structure. And GOH, it isn't the most politically correct city but it's still amazing. 50 years go this city was nothing.

Same with most of the Middle East. I have family friends from Saudi Arabia who recall the time before oil. They more or less ate dates, damn good dates but still only dates. The father is/was a former military guy, who now mostly grow dates, so there is his claim to part of the wealth of Saudi Arabia and why his family can come over to the United States on a yearly basis (Shit is expensive).
