  1. I want to see a study done if people who park in spots closer to the store tend to stay in the store longer than people who park further away.

      I know that seems like an obvious answer, but think of it as though while one car left and two cars arrived, it would only seem like a single car arrived.

      but I feel like I see cars pulling out of the far spots far more frequently than the close spots and I wonder if people think "wow I got the close spot, I'm going to use it for a while" and they stay in the store longer. I've heard at least one person say he actually does this but I bet others do it subconsciously.

      Someone might factor in how long it would be to walk through a mall's parking lot, so they overestimate the time and leave sooner. If you're close, people will see it as just exiting the building so when they're done shopping, they see it as "done" rather than "now walk to the car." That's my assumption anyway, but it also depends on whether someone is browsing or shopping for specific items.
