even if the noise was annoying isn't it worrying that it's changed? What's happened inside and will it develop into a problem?

it just sounds normal now.

mine would do the pulsing blue light the first time I'd boot it, and have to reboot it in order to actually launch. Then a few times it would boot into safe mode and do a data stability test, then upon normal boot would power off after a few minutes of playing a game.

I booted into safemode and rebuilt databases, so far its been working normally since.
