  1. can't agree more about GTA 5. They're already going the extra mile to rationalize your death by saying "you're not really wasted, you just had to go to the hospital" they may as well actually give it gameplay implications. They kind of get a slide from since they already make so damn much content, asking for more just seems greedy haha. And I didn't know those Dead Space games and that Max Payne game did that. It's kind of interesting. I would suggest that maybe some of these game should start doing the harder modes as the default play mode and have the easier modes be the special alternative modes. However, Gods Will Be Watching did that and honestly it just sucked the fun right out of the intended game mode (of course part of that is the randomization where just 'oh, you lose now, sorry you wasted 20 minutes' can happen).
  2. This game is awesome, I don't want any spoilers (or even outside opinions) until I finish it. I will return to discuss at a later time. But it's awesome and I love it.
  3. I will admit that it's very tempting to makes games this way. Game designers like holding you down and making sure you see every amazing thing they sunk time and money into (you see this mostly with AAA games). Because of this they don't have faith in people persisting in a system like that enough to actually experience their game, which is all they really want...if they aren't just after money. Like alex said though, it always is an option in games to do perma-save-file-death (I even plan to do it in Fallout 4 when that comes out). /rant thing

    Your Rig

Do you have a lot of browser plug ins? I used to use a lot of them and I found that Safari was by far the most stable with too many additives.
  5. I heard that Bill Willingham took the rights back for wolf among us. I don't think there's gonna be a season 2 anytime soon. But at least this means that Bill may be doing something else with the series (a movie and/or game set in the old west days of Fabletown. yes please).
  6. I used to be crap at FPS games and in the late game of bioshock I'd run out of ammo occasionally and then have to wrench a big daddy to death over the course of several reincarnated Jacks haha. Now, I like this system a lot more. Even if it doesn't make a lot of sense (it made more sense in Borderlands at least). Yup and yup. Though if permadeath was tied to narrative somehow, then I'm okay with it. Like in Bioshock: Infinite
  7. I saw this question on reddit and thought it was a good one. I will frame the conversation differently, however. In your opinion: what is the best way to integrate death as consequence into a game without it ruining the experience you want to get out of it? Some examples: Loss of progress on death (perhaps in games with no quick save) Loss of money on death (and sometimes also loss of other resources spent before dying) Perma-death, no measurable downside besides the time you sink into it (like super meatboy) And the only other example I can think of: the Shadow of Mordor thing where when you are killed your enemies are rewarded for doing so and thus they become more powerful and have more underlings at their disposal (they call it the 'nemesis system'...sounds much better). This relies heavily on the game type I realize so caveats are fine when picking your favorite.
  8. Man, I was hoping I'd see a game on here that I agreed was the best (can't think of anything spectacular that I played from this year). I looked through all of the games released this year and I guess I have to say Bioshock: Infinite: Burial at Sea for AAA and Betrayer for indie. Between the two probably Betrayer but I think I can have one for each...cuz I want to and the two game types feel like separate forms of media to me. Like the way tv and film are very similar, but we keep them staunchly separated when judging artistic merit

I played about half an hour of Diablo 3 in between getting home from work and 3 hours of sleep before class.

  10. It would have been neat. And I think the individual manufacturers may be doing their own semi-open betas as well. This is just a rumor most likely though
  11. Left 4 Dead is bland. It's just fun as hell to play with friends. Probably gonna be the same here, I agree. As long as it's balanced well.

    Day Z

Recently played it after about 6 months off. It's about the same, still has bugs (for instance a fine fellow taught me to duplicate all of his gear last time I played), but it has a bit more polish and a lot more items. I actually rather enjoy the scavenging and to some extent the thrill of maybe getting shot in my 30 minutes running sessions. It's still fun to run into heros from time to time and team up/eventually die together. Also they've added a number of light source items so playing on a server with nighttime enabled may become reasonable.
  13. It's kind of a long shot, but I'd like to hear from anyone that managed to alpha test one of these things haha

    Cube World

Last I had heard this game was pretty famously dead. It's been cited as one of those "took the money and ran" situations. I am so glad it appears there's one less asshole that did this. Yay Wollay.
  15. Dishonored is also the free game for xbox live for this month. Probably the first real game they've put on there. Gone Home is also $9.99 on the game's website but only until tomorrow. Highly recommend this game. I expected a horror game going into it and It's not really that. Its just an emotional ride. (not for everyone I guess)
  16. I agree with the general sentiment here. Sort of regret the purchase. I bumped it down to basically the equivalent of "gimp the game mode" (which is just one down from the intended game mode) and it became playable but still a slog. It definitely made me distance myself from what I was actually doing in game and then I started trying to game the mechanics, and this was the point I think. In a way they forced me to become a souless bastard through frustration and dealing with how unfair it all is at first glance. Which I think are the main themes of the game. So it's good in that sense, but from a gameplay perspective it sucked.
  17. Probably best to avoid it then. I died ~20 times trying to clear a fort of enemies.. it was aggravating
  18. I have one question for you: It's all left in the 80's before I was born. Also on t-shirts I think : P
  19. Hello, gifted rodent Betrayer is a game made by a small indie studio made on the Unreal engine (not using Unity means they're legit : P). It lets you play in Jamestown era America and deal with being alone besides one other individual. You're meant to find out what happened there by shooting all of the weird enemies that are around. The combat is the best part I think because you get to use muskets, the enemies do a lot of damage, and the enemy AI is reasonable (as in they're good shots, the stealth mechanics don't seem like bullshit, and they have decent, while basic, strategies). Unless you spend all your money on a decent gun you'll need to be pretty damn good at head shots or groups of enemies can quickly overwhelm you. Over all it's a solid action adventure game with a Sin City aesthetic and some survival horror elements. To see gameplay, there's some on the channel in my sig or just google it haha
  20. I really do haha. There are probably as many good indie games as there are good AAA games in a year, but the indie games cost 50%-80% less.
  21. To hell with trailers here's some gameplay from last week (also there's some talking I could do without):
  22. currently playing Betrayer and Gone Home Almost done with Gone Home and I'm thoroughly surprised by practically every aspect of it with Betrayer I had a glitch issue so I'm not very far, but my new desktop is able to get around this issue quite well so that now too
  23. This has been my biggest year for getting games. I bought: 140 4PM Betrayer DayZ Evoland Fable: The Lost Chapters The Forest Fez Gods Will Be Watching Gone Home Mind: Path to Thalamus Paper Sorcerer Payday 2 Project Zomboid Scratches: DIrector's Cut The Tower Terraria I've gotten a lot of free games in there as well and a few given to me by developers. But those I paid for with hard earned cash haha
