    I feel like a little kid before Christmas waiting for my new laptop to arrive. I hope Windows 8.1 isn't absolutely terrible, though.

      8.1 is infinitely better than 8.0 though. My partner's laptop was 8.0 before she updated it, and it was the horror. Really difficult to even get to the desktop.

      Yep, if you liked 8 then 8.1 is a no-brainer. Better in every possible way.

       

      As for the interface, the only times I see the Metro UI is literally when I accidentally hit the windows key. You can set it to boot straight to desktop.

      As someone who uses the start menu a lot on Windows 7, it would require a huge change in my usage patterns to avoid the start screen completely in Windows 8/8.1.
