  1. Ant-Man and The Wasp. It's lighthearted fun that isn't as funny as Thor:Ragnarok but overall much better than Ant-Man 1. It is probably the least good of the "good" Marvel movies in my ranking. The action scenes were good. The villains were interesting in that one was a very typical low-tier Marvel villain while the other was a bit more nuanced. Hope van Dyne is a much better hero than Scott Lang, but we already knew that. Paul Rudd is very much himself, strained comedic stylings and all. Incredibles 2 As good as Incredibles 1, though I still feel like Dash is a side character without much growth at all. Holly Hunter and Craig T. Nelson are getting too old to believably voice their characters, though Nelson is far worse; Mr. Incredible sounds like great grandpa incredible most of the time. Elastagirl just sounds like she's speaking through dentures, which is kinda how Hunter has always sounded, I suppose. But the movie itself was very sweet and fun to watch. I really enjoyed seeing some of the other 'supers'; Pixar does some masterful character design.
  2. The earlier GOW are super different and I think it would feel gross to play through parts of them after playing the new GOW. I mean, I replayed GOW3 before I played GOW4, and a lot of it felt gross. Gratuitous but ugly violence and quicktime sex scenes did not age well. it was worth replaying prior to GOW4 to remember what GOW4 is reacting against and growing from.
  3. I think it probably varies by the court. It wouldn't surprise if courts in the sticks are super formal about that sort of thing, though. Also NYC is a fast-paced town and "vee" is fewer syllables than "versus," though both are definitely sued in courts. I have never heard an American court or lawyer use "and" for "v.," though I have heard imported Irish and UK lawyers use it. IIRC, when I worked at a German firm, they usually translated their case names into English using "against" rather than "and" or "v.," but I did mostly corporate work, so I could be wrong.
  4. I've heard both state and federal judges say "vee" for "v." in court.
  5. Though I anticipate playing it mostly in handheld mode, it looks great on my TV!
  6. I got the Darkest Dungeon DLC and preordered Octopath Traveler on the strength of the demo. I may be a big ol' curmudgeon, but something felt really nice playing Octopath on my Switch in handheld mode. Like I was playing the Gameboy I always wanted when i was 10.
  7. It's hard for me to say which is better out of Hereditary and The Witch. I might have to give it to the Witch because I think it tells a slightly cleaner story and I liked the ending better. It also had an economy to its characters and writing that Hereditary did not. On the other hand, Toni Collette was fucking phenomenal in every way in hereditary, as were the kids. Hereditary moved faster in the middle, too. Heck, I like 'em both equally.
  8. Hereditary. Great psychological horror movie very much in the same vein of creeping dread as The Witch.
  9. Xmen-apocalypse is utter garbage and belongs in the bad movie thread. Solo: A Star Wars story.
  10. I played parts of the first 2 Witcher games (about a third of the first one and about 2/3 of the second); they have their moments, but W3 is an entirely different beast. It does a good job of setting up the world for new players and those of us who forgot all of the lore and story from the first two games. Cyberpunk looks neat. I like the brighter style alongside the usual cyberpunk tropes from the 80s and 90s. If it's as open as W3, it will be an instant buy for me.
  11. I mean, Hideo Kojima making a super weird stealth action game is 1000000% on-brand for him. The more I see of it, the more I like it! This trailer makes it look like somebody gave an indie game designer $100 million to turn a contemplative, bizarre, and short indie game about delivering packages int he post-apocalypse into a AAA experience. It should be a real trip.
  12. It's not coming until 2020 or later; the sci fi game is first. We'll be getting a new console gen by then.
  13. It is fucking bananas that the Elder Scrolls series is skipping a whole console generation.
  14. Anthem is such a weird, terrible hill for Bioware to die on.

@Ultra TCP Andromeda wasn't developed by the main Bioware studio, it was the one based here in Montreal. And from what I heard, they've already been essentially "shut down", only instead of being fired their staff was integrated into the other big EA studio in the area (I think EA Motive?).

@Mal Yeah, I expect this is 100% happening if Anthem underperforms. It has to be pretty stressful working at Bioware Edmonton these days.

@FLDoh right good point. What a loss for Canada it'll be if Bioware Edmonton gets shut down.

  15. So Beth is gonna do to FO what it did to Elder Scrolls; make a multiplayer entry that will forestall a true single player sequel for years to come.
  16. I agree with you except when it comes to end of life choices. Part of it is that I am very skeptical that any person who is do neuro-compromised to the point that they are not really conscious is capable of suffering or that there is a scientifically objective way to tell if such a person is suffering. I imagine the parents here could have found many other doctors who would have determined that the boy could be moved or left on respirators without undue suffering. I don't think the doctors' decision about what they subjectively believe is kindest ought to be determinative. In those circumstances, the suffering of the parents as conscious individuals and their right to determine what is best for their child when such determination does not put others at risk must also be taken into account. I take this position as a corollary my belief that people have a right to make their o we n end of life decisions and that such decisions are deeply personal and different from other medical decisions. I think terminal patients have a right to choose anything along the spectrum from assisted suicide to fighting to keep their hearts beating no matter what. I also suspect that if folks in this position were given a choice instead of knowing the decision is ultimately out of their hands, more would accept the doctors' recommendation rather than fight to the last. Personally, I am disgusted with the right wingers' political use of this boy's sickness and deliberate mischaracterization of UK laws and the NHS. I also think it's cruel to the loved ones to pretend a brain dead person has any chance at recovery. And, as a new parent myself, I think I would have accepted the doctors' determination as well. I have a DNR order for myself in the event of essential brain death.
  17. Does not giving a shit about Fortnite make me out of touch?

No, it is the Fortnite fans who are wrong.

  18. https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/05/03/god-of-war-sells-over-3-1-million-units-in-3-days-becomes-fastest-selling-ps4-exclusive/ Nice. There will definitely be sequels I would guess. I think the director has said as much. The game tells a complete story, but it also very obviously sets up a multi-game overarching narrative. Endgame spoilers:
  19. God of War. I finished the main story, but I have a significant post-story quest to finish (that has major story implications going forward; I'm not just collecting 50 widgets). This is my GOTY so far. If you have a PS4, you should probably get GoW. @TheMightyEthan I loved Horizon Zero Dawn but I ended up liking GoW slightly more. The combat in both is fantastic, but GoW was consistently more fun because of how meh the combat against humans was in Horizon. GoW also benefits from a tighter narrative focus, better writing and acting overall, and some pretty great world design. I also really loved its take on Norse mythology. Both games are masterpieces, though.
  20. Thor:TDW was just as bad as IM2. Not only are the villains the worst in the MCU, the story is messy, Thor is not very sympathetic, and the writing is terrible throughout. Yes, Loki can be fun, but he's the least fun in this movie (though I, unlike many others, truly disliked him in Avengers). Sometimes I think Thor is worse than both, sometimes better, but that's because I have not watched Thor in years. As an aside, I think Loki is the most misused and poorly-used character in the MCU who is otherwise a brilliantly cast and pretty great character.
  21. Yeah, you are clearly forgetting just how much Thor: The Dark World was a pile of hot garbage.
  22. Yeah, the right-wing's arguments based on this are extreme, particularly since the right seems fine with insurers refusing to pay for care for folks in this situation anyway. Furthermore, most folks who want socialized medicine here in the US do not want the UK's system. Personally, I do not think doctors should have the final say on whether to stop care for a terminal person and the UK should have allowed the parents to take their son elsewhere, even if it would have been fruitless.
  23. Now that two more films have been released, here is my MCU ranking: Elite Tier: Winter Soldier GotG Ragnarok Spider-Man Black Panther Civil War Good fun tier: Iron Man 1 Avengers Captain America Infinity War Meh Tier: Doctor Strange GotG Vol II Iron Man 3 Ant-Man Age of Ultron Garbage Tier: Iron Man 2 Hulk Thor Thor: the Dark World
