  1. Everybody knows that, just like in real life, prettier people and prettier crowds are smarter, and therefore require more processing power to simulate than uglier, low-res people.
  2. I blame Ethan for his unwavering support of the terrible, awful Xbone. I, however, plan to enjoy Unity at a full, rich 1080p on my PC.
  3. Story Missions give you powers. You need to do them to get to the most interesting gameplay.
  4. It was $30 for me with discounts and such. I like Alien and horror games, and the reviews make it sound like I'd enjoy it.
  5. Celem mentions it very briefly when you wake up.
  6. Win 10 will be 128 bit, because that's twice as fast as 64 bit.
  7. Shadow of Mordor is my GOTY so far. It's like Assassin's Creed ORC MURDER!, only better than Ubi could have ever made it.

It's very cool. Now I've finished it though and I'm kinda wondering what to do with the army now that they're all replaced with weaklings... Should I just try and level them up so that it stays interesting?

Conor: advance time repeatedly and make sure to Death Threat all of them at least three times

      Oh yeahhhh

Plus yes, I think Shadow of Mordor might actually be a pretty important milestone in open world/sandbox gaming. Will prepare an over-long rant in the relevant thread soon

  8. Yeah, that seems nuts. But it is interesting to see how last gen really held back interesting gameplay systems and not just graphics.
  9. *rolls his eyes* Sure, yeah, uh huh. Right. That's exactly why the subs are capitalized randomly. Also explains the long s characters, which is why the title of the game is spelled "Aſsaſsin's Creed IV."
  10. It's here! Hooray for my new GTX 970!

  11. Dear mods: please remove the irrelevant posts about Bungie's multiplayer boredom simulator from this thread about an awesome video game. Thank you. -Mr. GOH!
  12. There isn't a song about Moria, sadly, because the fellowship were the first non-evil folks to discover that the dwarven expedition had been wiped out. But they could make one up and have the telling of the tale as a framing device.
  13. Yeah; I noticed it and thought it was distinctly German capitalization. But English speakers who do not know a single word of German capitalize random nouns all the time in informal writing. My guess is that the text was put together by an intern or other semi-skilled-but-not-skilled-enough writer who fucked them up because s/he didn't know any better.
  14. More dwarves, more beards, more fun. Edit: Of course, having an open world game that ends in the death of the protagonist would be difficult to get right. But I think it would be possible to put together a big finishing battle with the Balrog that ends in the player character's death while accomplishing something good (perhaps the destruction of one of the Dwarven Rings). Also, this gif made me laugh.:
  15. Looks good. The Giant Bomb Quick Look really made me feel like it was safe for me to preorder.
  16. Changed my order to an EVGA 970 ACX 1.0 because it was briefly in stock while the MSI's have not been in stock. Fedex tells me it will arrive at my office tomorrow! Downside is that I have Yom KIppur services with my fiancee, and then dinner in Park Slope until 10pm. Which is very nice, but I will need to install my new toy so so badly. Edit: *judges FLD so harshly for the trash Vita game he claims is "legit"*
  17. Easy; they did all the subtitle text on an iPhone. Hipsterness and all that.
  18. No. I want the next one to be about the dwarves clearing Moria.
  19. There is a shadow of mordor thread, kenshi. I've only played it for a couple hours, so these are my very early impressions. I have watched a number of streams and recordings of gameplay from the midgame as well. SoM is kinda like AC 2 or Brotherhood in map size and density. I find traversal to be slightly better, but I have not encountered many complex structures yet. It's better in that there are fewer false starts and limitations on where you can go when climbing, diving, etc. You can eagle dive from anywhere and survive, for example. SoM is structurally similar to the AC games, but it really pulls of motivating the player to kill specific orcs very, very well due to the nemesis system. There is also more freedom to take out targets however you see fit. Once I get my new GPU I'll play more. My current GPU runs the game on low.
  20. Yeah; the game looks rough on low. The PS4 looks like it falls between medium and high in some parts of the comparison shots, particularly the ruffles on Talion's sleeve in the first shot.
  21. Me too, Dean. But it's far, far better than you would think. It is an Important Game in terms of game system design because the Nemesis System really enriches the open-world gameplay in a way no other open world system has, at least in a AAA game. That the game is also solid as hell in all other aspects of its design, from traversal to combat, makes it a pleasure to play. I haven't played enough to determine how good the story is, but it's decent, if a bit uninspired, so far.
  22. Green Man gaming still has it for a few bucks off. I got it for 25% off a few weeks ago. After playing, though, I would pay full price.
  23. Well, guys, looks like this game is one of those rare masterpieces that consists of a perfectly-executed mashup of other games' ideas capped off with a brilliant and novel game mechanic. The result is far better than the sum of its parts. The great character design of the orcs helps a ton, too. Sadly, my current GPU can only run the graphics settings on low, which makes the gameworld look like a PS3 game from 2009. I'm going to do my best to hold off on playing much more until my GTX 970 arrives; I hear it will run the game on ultra settings (aside from the nutbar ultra textures that require 6GB VRAM) at 1080p and that the game looks gorgeous on those settings.
