Has anyone heard of Halo Online or Installation 01? Both worked on by fans, but Installation 01 is built from scratch and is supported by Microsoft. Halo Online is a modified version of the Russia-only free2play Halo game. It's actually gotten really badass, looks like a Halo game on its own now.
