Games You Beat in 2022: PXoD's Bogus Journey
CorgiShinobi replied to danielpholt's topic in General Gaming Chat
Yeah, the gist of it is that Ranni would rather an Order be removed from the land and exist far away so that it's very nature would be uncertain to the people. How it's translated makes it sound like nihilism. That there wouldn't be emotion and everything would be in doubt. -
I've seen so many videos of it just melt bosses. Definitely gotta invest in Mind.

Games You Beat in 2022: PXoD's Bogus Journey

I absolutely love it as well as the wife. We both get sucked into the Pokedex tasks/goals sometimes, and I tend to be more battle focused. The game got rid of EVs and IVs and simply has Effort Levels. They can make a difference, but it's not like there is PvP in this game. The only human interaction is with trading and maybe recovering someone's satchel in one of the zones. It's not completely open world, but each zone is massive. The Hisui region forms are hit-and-miss, but for the most part I still enjoy them. This is certainly where Pokemon needs to be headed. Veteran players may get upset about the removal of certain mechanics, but I don't see why they can't return in a true mainline game. The only downsides to me is the lackluster story (though it does have some neat twists) and the graphical quality. I'm not so hellbent on graphics, but certain areas of these maps didn't get a lot of attention. I would say on average the game is a solid 7/10, but there are moments where it bumps up to 8/10 for me. -

It has been nearly four years, but I don't quite remember having a problem with the combat. Might require digging back through post history, but I was able to Platinum the game. The thing I remember is the ravens and commenting that backtracking through certain environments was a pain. Some areas are designed with a thematic sense rather than easily traversing an open world. Like when you're running through the foggy forest and come across a farm house. There's a raven there, but if you didn't get it the first time, you essentially reenact that whole moment. -
Heard the shells were going to be $55. If I had a PS5, I would be getting the red shell and purple controller.

Yep, after Ultimate's final update, it's like WB said, "It's showtime, fellas!"

Agreed on Trevor. Loki is definitely worth watching and I can't really say more without spoiling anything. Falcon and the Winter Solider was... massively meh. It sparked a lot of debate, but the show itself didn't get good until crap hit the fan. In my opinion of course, but I couldn't care for the antagonists and the conflict Sam goes through might as well be nonexistent since, going from Endgame, nothing changed really.

Would y'all recommend doing chapter select before proceeding with the collectibles run? Like for Drax's specific move and Charged Shot trophy? I actually saw a video that explained elemental stuns count too, so there's an easy spot late game you can get the trophy.

Games You've Beat 2021 - PXoD's Excellent Adventure
CorgiShinobi replied to MetalCaveman's topic in General Gaming Chat
Last night I finished Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Let me preface this that I love the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy films with the first one still being my favorite of the MCU. With that said, these Guardians certainly took inspiration, but remain comic faithful in other aspects and are, undoubtedly, all the better for it. As y'all have discerned, Marvel's Avengers felt like Diet MCU; as if we got imposters to fulfill the roles that the movies built up. With Guardians, these are my favorite interpretation of the group. They're a rowdy, hilarious, and chaotic bunch that will save the galaxy even if they're the only ones to do it. They've got their hang-ups and there's friction between members, but the whole time it's engaging. I would only put down the controller out of needing to go to sleep for the next day. The story takes you on these varied missions and environments that you're never quite certain if the end is near or what the group can possibly do next. Really, I could gush about so much in this game. Even the ending is a wild ride and can have minor differences depending on how you made your choices. The only downsides are the sometimes buggy nature of the game and the combat. There aren't any major bugs to worry about, but I've had some that required me to load the last checkpoint. Thankfully there are many autosave checkpoints, so you'll never be that far behind. The combat can be dynamic, but half the time I felt I wasn't doing a lot of damage as Star-Lord where the bulk of damage and stagger effects had to come from my teammates. But then they're on a cooldown and so I go back to whittling health as Star-Lord. The hardest trophy to get in the game is finishing off staggered enemies with a Charged Shot 15 times. Your Charged Shot is both finicky to use and does pitiful damage that you'll easily forget about it. Even when you're actively seeking out the trophy, the situations where you can stagger and then do just enough damage with the Charged Shot are rare. (Not to mention your teammates might finish them off too.) Still, that's a mole hill of a gripe and this is truly a fun single player game. Takes me back to the mid-2000s when we had tons of fun superhero action games. It is linear, but like Dan said, that's perfectly find and sometimes you can go off the beaten trail to find a secret and get yourself a cool new skin for the team. 8.5/10 -
So it appears I got two codes for GotG pre-order bonus. Anyone with the game want to the extra? Since you redeem it on Square Enix's website, it can be for Xbox or PlayStation.

The Komi Can't Communicate is fantastic. I know people got upset that the whole conversation on the chalkboard wasn't translated, but really all you need to know is that Komi and Tadano have a real conversation as people rather than him fawning over her as a goddess.

The first Suicide Squad is one of the few movies I actually hate. Not just dislike or simply think is awful, but hate.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a flawed game with an interesting enough story. The combat is solid, but the enemies can be massively dumb or glitchy. It's worth playing as a Mass Effect fan to see where the series could have gone, and $8 is worth the cost of admission if you were to ask me. A lot of the... "mess" of the game has been ironed out.

I saw Raya this past weekend. The wife and I saw the Last Airbender similarities right away. Like, you can easily find them with little effort. It's still a fun watch, but yeah the message to me was "be willing to trust others." It sorta works, but for the most part people are untrustworthy in this film because they've been hurt. A series of mistrust only spreads more. Another film not worth the $30 and would probably be a good film to have if you have children and that's it. Like, it's beautiful for sure, but that's its best attribute.

Yeah, I mostly agree. From a certain perspective, this movie almost plays out like a Kong film with Godzilla as the primary antagonist. Godzilla is enraged over *insert spoiler* so he's not keen on being a savior. And the whole attitude around Kong is that, "We need to keep him from Godzilla! Godzilla is going after him!" Like, there's the deep rooted rivalry, but it plays out like someone pulling their pet dog away from the crazed neighborhood dog. I didn't mind the human stuff tied to Kong, but the human stuff around Godzilla (loosely mind you) was unbearable. I didn't like what they did to the girl from the previous film and her poor friend was an accessory and not a character. Ultimately it does lead to the amazing... I got to see two movies out of the one month of HBOMax I paid for. If WB didn't pull the stunt to delay Mortal Kombat by around week, I could have seen that too. Oh well, I'm not paying another $15 unless the movie reviews really well.

I still remember when trophies were implemented. I could have received the platinum for Vanquished, but it turned out there was a bug. If you decided to hope around the different chapters while trying to complete a difficulty-based trophy, it wouldn't count because you were selecting different parts of the story. So I did the hardest difficulty, beat the final boss, and while waiting for the platinum, it never popped up. I went online and learned this and I couldn't will myself to go through the toughest difficulty again...

Yeah, at that point people were either super thrilled or felt it ruined the vibe of the game.

Games You've Bought Episode MMXX: Revenge of the Backlog
CorgiShinobi replied to MetalCaveman's topic in General Gaming Chat
I didn't purchase it, just downloaded. But really, stay away from Marvel Realm of Champions. Didn't know much about it and I've been itching for something to dork around with on my phone. I already have Among Us, but that's infinitely better with friends and family. This.... "game" is a dumbed down MOBA with the weakest map design. Just one average sized circle once you exited your team's hallway. Your hero is bland and their entire appearance is based on what gear you get piecemealed after the weak matches. It acts like it has such grand design and gusto to hold your attention, but it's woefully lacking. And they know that you probably want to play as a Spider-Man hero, but that's one of the ones locked behind an in-game currency. Even after you do all the introductory stuff, you'll be short just enough to get any of the three behind the currency pay wall. It reminds me of why I rarely ever play mobile games. -
Yeah, it's not a bad purchase and I've looked into those Samsung televisions before. Just something like 4K on a bog standard 19" screen isn't going to be worth it over 1080p. So anyone with a small TV in their camper or dorm room shouldn't be itching for 4K (nor would you be easily able to find one).
-
4K at 32" would be noticeable, but there are certainly diminishing returns the smaller you go. It's why I didn't both with 4K on my computer monitor. Heck, on my previous phone I would watch video at 720p because 1080p made so little difference. It also comes down to color and the lighting of the television/monitor. A quality screen and dynamic range go a long way. There's also how cost effective it has been to make television screens, so even getting a smaller television is more so down to the consumer's available space rather than cost. Go into a Best Buy and the majority of their 19"-32" sizes are their Insignia brand. Not to say you won't find an LG or Vizio, but you're going to find more of the lower tier brands as well.

Finally watched Promare yesterday. It has your typical Trigger tropes in it, but.... I mean, that's just part of the charm! Also, I would have watched this sooner if anyone had told me Kari Wahlgren and Steve Blum voiced characters in the dub! Only complaint is that it does feel like it runs long with all the twists and turns.
