During the 60s an LP would cost you around $5 for a top artist. That's around $33 in today's money. Think about that the next time you can't be bothered to pay 99 cents for a song.

At one time, imported fruit was an expensive luxury item. It was much harder to deliver to local shores fresh and in quantity. These days, to record and market an album, all you really need is a computer and some audio gear (expertise optional.) The cost of production has plummeted since media is a tiny concern tied to hosting. It no longer takes a massive industry to get a song heard.

Yet one could argue that much of the crap didn't get sent to the mass market. There are exceptions, of course ...

I'd wager there was just as much crap to goodness ratio as their is now. I highly doubt that there was only a few dozen artists in the 60's 70's. I highly doubt Zepplin, Beatles, Hendrix etc were the only musicians of their time.
