  1. Oh, I agree the dickwolves thing was blown WAY out of proportion.  From that "objection" to the dickwolves comic:

But unlike Gabe killing Tycho so he doesn't have to share a video game, a slave being raped is a real thing that happens in the world every day.

Right, no one ever murders anyone, and it's certainly not like we hear several times a year of someone specifically murdering someone else over a videogame.  Granted that isn't as common as rape, but it's really arbitrary to say "this horrible violent crime is okay to joke about, but this other one isn't."

  2. Well and I'm sure Xbone is experiencing a preorder spike right now after announcing the DRM change, whereas Sony had that spike after their E3 conference.  It'll be more interesting to see the rankings in 3 months.

*Edit* - Also, notice that only 3 of the top 10 are not Playstation items.  Xbone, Animal Crossing and FC3.

  3. Cisgender is to provide an opposite for transgender other than "normal".  If it's "I'm not transgender, I'm normal" then it implies a value judgement against being trans, so by using the term cis you avoid that.

    Why I came in here:

I can't decide if the Fullbright Company pulling out of PAX is an overreaction or not.  My gut reaction is that it is, that while he said some insensitive things it's not like he said anything just atrocious.  But then another part of me thinks what if he had made equally dismissive comments about race or some other issue?

  4. How have they been forcibly silenced in the past?  Has their web host taken down the site, or what?

I'm sorry, but this is one of my pet peeves, when people try to use "free speech" as a defense against any criticism of their views.

And of course people are going to get offended when you take an issue that is extremely morally and personally important to them and cast it aside as a non-issue.  The idea that you are (apparently) more bothered by people taking issue with his insensitive comments than you are by the comments themselves is just sickening to me.  His comments were incredibly demeaning toward people who face discrimination and hate constantly, but god forbid people might have a problem with that, and express that they have a problem with it.  That's taking it too far.

(For the record, I do think things like that person saying "this is why I hate cis men" is taking it too far.  Lumping all cis men in with his comments is just as small-minded, though less societally problematic.)

  5. How is he being forcibly silenced?  No one's deleting his tweets, or preventing him from expressing his views.  It's not like an irl speech where he could be drowned out by boos to the point where no one could hear him, his comments are still there for anyone to see.

Shaming someone into silence is not the same as forcibly silencing them.

  6. Maybe it's just that it's so small from the front that it looks awkwardly long in comparison, without actually being all that long.  Like how the Wii U looks like a fucking VHS rewinder.

*Edit* - Why are they in a law library?

  7. @WTF: You're right Xbox is the sole success of their entertainment division, which is precisely why it would make sense to have public beheadings over this debacle: they screwed up the one thing that was working well for them.

I don't think even Microsoft know how their console works any more.

Yeah, I guarantee this was all decided high up and now they've got engineers scrambling to make it actually work the way the execs have decided it must.

Re: EA not being as stable as Activision: That might be true, but they do have all those sports licenses that have got to provide them with pretty reliable income.

Unrelated to all this:  I can't help but feel that the loss of sharing of digital purchases is intended as kind of a punishment.  "Fine!  Have it your way!  But now you can't share your games!"

  8. Freedom of speech does go both ways.  Me saying "your opinion is stupid and wrong and you should shut up" is not the same thing at all as me saying "you do not have the right to express your opinion."  People can express their opinions all they way, but free speech (the ideal, not the law, the law only affects what government can do) doesn't protect them from other people reacting negatively to those opinions, it only protects them from being forcibly silenced.

  9. I know what he said, Ethan. I don't take issue with what he said because I don't get offended by everything on the Internet. If that were the case, I'd be out punching anyone who uses the word "privilege" or denies the existence of reverse discrimination in the gonads. Whether those gonads make that person a man, woman, transgender or whatever you'd like to call them.

Edit: People spend so much time trying to impose what they believe on others and taking offense instead of trying to understand a person or what a person has said or done. There's already enough of the circle-jerking going on where communities only care about themselves. And frankly, I'm sick of people flipping their shit whenever someone says something they don't agree with or like.

Yes, because endemic, societal discrimination against a minority is totally the same thing as discrimination against an empowered majority, and should be treated that way.

  10. I think women have vaginas I think you call a person with a vagina a woman.

This statement is basically saying to trans people "you don't exist and/or your self identity is invalid."

  11. Oh yeah, it totally does.  I'm just saying that a guest post on pastebin could be literally anyone, so we have no idea whether it's true or not except whether it seems true.  Thruthiness.
