You have roughly $15K to spend on a car, you're primary interests are quality and gas/mileage. What do you get?

Get a Mini, or a bike.

15k could buy many many sandwiches.
Anyway, the only problem I've had with a Focus is with the windshields. Its curved in just a way that the wipers don't always do a very good job, but that's just a minor thing. I do <3 my Focus.
Oh, and the Versa has a ton of leg room.

Entry-level vehicles for just about any make is what fits each of those criteria. If you want long-term reliability with good gas mileage, I would recommend the Honda Fit, which, as it's name implies, can hold a lot of stuff.
A lot of people have said Mini, but I don't think they're quite as good for long-term reliability as other makes. The Mini is more of a small car for drivers who like driving. Go-kart-like handling is all I hear about it .
