First record you bought.

Mine was Diana Ross - Chain Reaction and it was an actual vinyl record I still have it and it is still awesome. I remember the fabulous dresses in the video. In fact, here's the video. Fun fact: it was written by the bee gees and they did backing vocals which you can totally tell. Oh and I was 5 at the time.

What was the first song you chose and bought yourself? What format was it on? I'm guessing mostly CDs and some tapes. If anyone says mp3 I will kill myself.

MP3 actually...Due to the fact that I would just copy my friends music and I just torrent stuff these days. I can't remember what it was, but I couldn't find it on any torrent sites so I just ended up buying it, but recently I've developed an interest in vinyl and bought a few.

To answer the thread title literally, my first record was a clear blue, 7" limited release by Chris Vrenna/Tweaker for American McGee's Alice. It has a remix of a song from the game by Tweaker and a track from Enter the Matrix.

My first album, however, was a CD and I think it was Marilyn Manson. Either Mechanical Animals or Antichrist Superstar. I can better remember the albums I received as gifts.

The first music I can remember owning was a Vengaboys album on CD. I was about 7 at the time.

To be fair, they still play this and a whole lot of other 90s cheese every Friday at what is probably one of the biggest student nights in Manchester. It's post-ironic...or something.

What night is that? I went to uni in Manchester - I wonder if it's one I went to... many years ago.

Americana by The Offspring.

Not because of Pretty Fly (For A White Guy). When I first heard that song it made me think they were a band like Chumbawamba (who are apparently not very silly beyond their most popular single either).

It was after hearing the album at a friend's that I really liked it. Got Smash and Ignition shortly after that.

I didn't buy any music till I was 13. First Album was Sinner by Drowing Pool :)

And ya still buy barely any!

Thinking back, I had to laugh. The first bit of music I had was a record as well - The Rocky soundtrack!

After a start like that, I won't embarrass myself by naming the other music I listened to in my childhood.

BOP. It goes way back I think, the Chemical Brothers played their first gig there.

I never owned much music. We would just copy records from my uncle onto cassette tapes.

My first CD was a collection of sound effects that we got at K-Mart for $5.99. (Why I remember that, I have no idea) but I used to take my cassette recorder and make radio shows or stories using the sound effects and everything. Those was the days!
