RockyRan
I don't like "ratings" for comments anywhere. Even in here. They're just stupid, honestly. It's like it's distilling communication between commenters down to smoke signals or caveman grunts ("UGHN. UG LIKE!!" "UG NO LIKE!!!" *pounds chest*). If you have something to say about a comment, just reply to it and actually say something rather than just grunt like a caveman of your approval/disapproval. Plus, it gives a voice to some extent to stupid people/fanboys who can't be arsed to actually write a comment and just do drive-by semi-commenting by downvoting everything they disagree with. >
CorgiShinobi
Here at TAY we've been doing a good job of responding/commenting after a vote. It's not like someone well make a thread and all the responses are in +1/-1. Besides, sometimes it's better than a, "Oh cool, thanks" post. Really, the one time I would say it got out of control was the lil' controversy with... Well, I don't want to get involved, so I'll have others explain. Enervation
I always thought it was supposed to be a funny toy sort of thing. You mean people actually take it seriously?
Faiblesse Des Sens
Different opinion? Minus!
Pirandello
Different opinion? Minus! Walk in with a different opinion despite the topic's name clearly providing a literal bias that you should have read before you posted with a different opinion? MINUS!
Cyber Rat
I only read posts with positive rep. Reds say the silliest things.
Kovach_
You think the reputation thing is bad? Think of the horror if the forum displayed post count below the avatar...
Mr W Phallus
Personally I never use the minus button, but if someone makes a particularly good post I will +1 it. Most of the time I forget the rating system is even there, though.
excel_excel
I've never minus'd anyone actually although I'm quite happy to plus someone if their post is cool

Faiblesse Des Sens
You think the reputation thing is bad? Think of the horror if the forum displayed post count below the avatar... Isn't that what TAY points and the rank thing are anyways?
Kovach_
Kinda, but those are somewhat vague. Postcount below the avatar is the ultimate forum e-penis.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Is it? I've only seen it be a problem on ultra public sites like gamefaqs
Kovach_
True. It's only a problem when people start posting bullshit and/or one word posts just so they can up their post count. It's rare, but happens every now and then. Nothing a warn/ban can't take care of tho.
Hot Heart
All that postcount bullshit is part of what fractured the 'original' community here.
Kovach_
I wasn't around when that happened so i wouldn't know how or why it exactly happened, but i guess that just proves my point.
Hot Heart
The fact that you weren't here is why I found it quite funny.
Mal
I was around when it happened and I'm still in the dark. All I know is... wtf happened. Can't say I care to know with it being forums drama and all. I avoided them all my internet life.
Popular Post TheFlyingGerbil
The only thing that bothers me about them is that I never get them. Just like a star on Kotaku. Then I get all bitter and twisted when I see totally banal posts getting upped. :'(
CorgiShinobi
I swear, as far as the post count topic goes, forums that "unlocked" forum functions through post count had a hand in the e-penis mentality. I could see it being helpful so spammers, and etc, didn't go on a rampage... BUT C'MON, 2,500 TO POST A PICTURE?!
Hot Heart
I don't think calling it a 'spam board' particularly helped matters.
deanb
Well that's what it is. And if folks were butthurt enough over losing some of their post count, what you call it won't really make much of a difference.
Cyber Rat
It was a stupid argument over stupid things between two sides being stupid in a stupid place called the Internet.
Hot Heart
I thought it was the 'rude stuff' board more than just spam (which some of the threads obviously were).
deanb
Its the "fair amount of rules are lax" part of the forum. Post spamming n NSFW stuff are the main things that come under that. Also we're getting a tad off-topic here.
