deanb
http://majornelson.c...-update-preview So you may of heard(I did throw it in the news feed...), there's a new system update preview thing like they've had before. This time around it's for a new disc format. Now Nelsons blog doesn't mention much, but most other sources are running with the story, and it's pretty plausible, that it'll increase the Xbox 360 disc capacity by a gig. At the moment 360 uses DVD-9 discs, which in dual layer format have a potential capacity of 7.95GB. However on 360 discs MS have a reserved area that pushes the usable capacity for developers down to 6.5GB (iirc). Which as many sites are keen to point out is less than what a PS2 had to play with. So it kinda makes sense that MS scrap this reserved space (I think it's for system updates or whatever, along with some anti-piracy stuff) to give a boost to disc capacity, which is starting to get a bit tight. Anyway thought I'd bring this to folks attention, might want the free Reach. Oh and it's US only. And Gold gets priority.
McBeeferton
I wasn't going to do it, but hey... free game. I wonder if it'll just be the disc or if it'll come with a case like you'd find at the store. Edit: It appears they aren't accepting anymore applicants. Good thing I signed up earlier. Sorry, at this time we are no longer accepting registrations for the program as we have reached our target audience volume. Please be on the lookout for additional opportunities in the future to participate in Xbox LIVE Update Preview programs. RockyRan
I signed up and I'm on the Cheap Bastard Who Refuses to Pay for Live plan (or whatever it is Microsoft is calling Silver now). Wonder if I'll get in. Maybe I'll get a "give us your money nao" e-mail instead.
Mercurial
I am in that group too rocky.
RockyRan
ATTEN-SHUN! They've already given out the dealio on who's getting in and who isn't. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/07/xbox-dashboard-beta-rolls-out-isnt-that-exciting-yet/ If you signed up and want to check: -Go here: http://connect.microsoft.com/?lc=1033 -Sign in -Click on "Directory" at the top right -You'll get a huge list of all the previews Microsoft has going. Click on "Xbox LIVE Update". For me it wasn't that far down the list -Under "Announcements" you should see which group you're in. Keep in mind: I got in and I'm a Silver/Cheapskate/WhateverMicrosoftCallsItNow memeber. MS said priority would be given to Gold Members first, so if you signed up and are a Gold member you're obviously in. And of course, because this is obligatory:

CorgiShinobi
Meh, a line of text has only so much appeal. Besides, first time I saw that Egoraptor short was on YouTube mobile. Perfect for laughs on the go, so unless Newgrounds has an app for that, I'd say it's cool to have it both ways.
Mercurial
Woot woot got in as well.

CorgiShinobi
Yeah, not to beat a dead horse, but quite a few prominent Newgrounds members have started to upload their work onto YouTube as well.

RockyRan
Got it yesterday. Started playing, everything's fine. I do have to say I THINK the disc drive is far quieter than it usually is when you read games from the disk (don't have Reach installed just yet), but other than that it's all a-OK. I might post some impressions later on Reach itself in the Halo topic.
McBeeferton
I finally got around to putting the disc in. All I did was fiddle with my character's armor and emblem options for about 30 minutes. I couldn't be arsed to get online and actually play. Unsure why I signed up for this little beta test anyway. haha
