excel_excel
Fantastic. Day one purchase all we need now is Last Story to come out over here!
FMW
This is concerning. I live neither in Japan, nor in the EU. Nintendo has traditionally treated the US audiences very well, and I recognize this. However, I've just seen a one two three punch of games I would like to play not launching in the US. These games are Last Window, Inazuma 11, and now Xenoblade. It's still possible that Xenoblade will make it over to US territories. It's even a wee little bit possible that Inazuma 11 will too (not likely mind). And even if none of these games do make it over, that's only 3 games out of the dozens Nintendo launches every year. No biggy. Yet. It's just something I'm keeping my eye on. And none of this would be a big deal if Nintendo hadn't decided to start region locking their hardware again. Not cool dudes. Mercurial
I am sure there's some homebrew that lets you play other regions if you softmod your wii. Edited April 1, 2011 by Hakidia
WTF
I am sure there's some homebrew that lets you play other regions if you softmod your wii. Pretty much this. Even if NoA doesn't announce it, you can softmod and play. Or you can import the game and if you've a pretty decent setup can run it on Dolphin at a much better res than you'd get on the Wii. You are buying the game and thus not pirating, you're playing it on the PC via emulators simply because it's not released in your region and you wouldn't like to softmod your machine. So you don't have to worry about morality . Also there is a likelihood that this might not get released. The previous game from Monolithsoft, Disaster:Day of Crisis (which is a really fun game that I'd recommend JP and PAL players to play) did not make it to the US, because of some dubbing issues that NoA wanted to fix that Monolithsoft didn't want to (despite them at the time being Nintendo owned).. Other first party games that never made it to the US include besides the titles you mentioned - Another Code:R. While EU didn't get Trauma Team (sales were the reason). Third Party Nintendo games are the only real issue for PAL since not many pubs want to pick them up.
TCP
I'm predicting this will be announced for NoA release soon. Reggie has already said they will flesh out the 2011 Wii releases with some imports (which immediately bring to mind Xenoblade and The Last Story). Also it was showcased at E3 a few years ago. Now, I do hope this game takes awhile to come out through, as I have a shitload of RPGs to play through at the moment.
WTF
I get the vague feeling that we'll not see Xenoblade in the US, and we'll not see Last Story in the EU. It's Nintendo they are really odd with their releases and we all are pretty aware of it now. It's a bit too early to say anything about NoA, they've yet to do something including change the title from Monado to something Xenoblade related. However certain sources tell me that Xenoblade is set for a Summer release here.
excel_excel
OK! So its out in Europe since last Friday. And it is brilliant. Such a great game, so many little touches that elevate it above standard RPG fare. Every gameplay element ties into each other. A perfect example is exploration. Your rewarded exp and other points for leveling up skills for finding new areas and landmarks, and then you can fast travel to landmarks you've discovered, which helps with making mini quests you've taken on easier because you can fast travel to locations you need to be at to kill unique enemies or collecting a rare item, then in turn by completing those quests your rewarded exp and items and money and your affinity with the townspeople goes up letting you take on greater quests and get to know people better in the town. The battle system, refreshingly for a JRPG, focuses on buffs, debuffs and cooldowns of moves, and is a delight to play with. There are western style additions to the game that make the game completely chore feeling free. Fast travel, a list of townspeople and what time they are around at, a menu that lets you instantly change the time, and the vast majority of mini quests that don't require you to go back to the quest giver to complete. The story is interesting and dark in places, not afraid to kill off characters you'd have thought would have been with you for the entire journey. The environment graphics are lovely and the draw distance is massive. The character models lack the detail of the environments but do their job. The music is AWESOME. So so so good. Easily the most engrossing and fun JRPG I've played this generation. OH, yeah the dub. Its very good so far, and the Japanese subbed option is there. Only problem is the subtitles are based on the English lines. Whilst the lines aren't that different from the original script, they still sometimes contain that British English type of inflection, and that carries over to the NPCS as well in their dialogue. Saturnine Tenshi
I was holding onto my Wii for this, Last Story and Pandora's Tower. When I saw it wasn't announce for the U.S. + moving, I got rid of my Wii. Really want to play it. |:
BrainHurtBoy...2
Playing this on my Dolphin. I'm about 3 hours in, and it is very good. Optimistic so far.

Saturnine Tenshi
That's likely just a placeholder. Though Nintendo uploading Xenoblade images to its Facebook page is a good sign. Edit: And it's up. BrainHurtBoy...2
Yeah, I probably should have posted here. I finished the game. It's fantastic. My 3rd favorite game of this console gen, really fantastic.
TCP
Dammit it's not coming to Canada Hopefully I can order online..............
FMW
There shouldn't be any issues ordering online. Even if Gamestop.com doesn't deliver to Canada, Nintendo.com probably does. This game will be available both through Gamestop and Nintendo's online store, so you're probably covered.
Yantelope V2
So has anyone played this? Is it any good? If I hated FFXIII would I like this? Also, I'm not sure if this is going to be a limited release kind of thing where I'll need to buy it new or risk prices actually going up. How is the availability in the EU?
Saturnine Tenshi
It's limited release in NA, if that's where you are.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I saw some guy on /v/ talking about the misogny in the game. The example he gave was how the best armor for a female was a bikini. Has anyone else played and noticed stuff like this?
FMW
Lol, I'm not sure you're allowed to be a JRPG if you AREN'T a little misogynist. Comes with the territory. Sorry, I haven't played it so I can't answer. Hopefully Brain will swing by. I do have something else to say though! It seems Nintendo is running a Facebook poll to decide what the image on the backside of the cover will be. There are four options. I have a strong preference, but I do not have a Facebook to vote. Some of the art is kinda nice, so check it out if interested
excel_excel
How is itmisogyny if the best armour is a bikini? Wouldn't that be sexist rather than misogynistic? Anyway, as far I can tell its not really sexist, although you can basically strip the characters of their armour so the lads would be running round in shorts and the women in their bikinis. I mean the swimming clothes armour is basically a different coloured bikini and shorts for all the characters, and the 'hot oil' top armour is just that, hot oil so the character doesn't wear a top. It doesn't come across sexist at all in game at any rate.
Faiblesse Des Sens
How is that NOT misogyny? When superior armor makes them more scantily clad when for the dudes it doesn't? God, Japan is behind the rest of the world.
Saturnine Tenshi
You sillies are using the word like it's a bad thing. Edited February 7, 2012 by Saturnine Tenshi
excel_excel
Cause misogyny is the hatred of women? also it all depends on the armour type they are wearing. Light armor makes ALL characters wear less, including the dudes. Edited February 7, 2012 by excel_excel
Saturnine Tenshi
As Shadowplay pointed out in Steam chat, there is no pleasing those who'll complain over dress. There's "too conservative"—obviously a ruse to subjugate women as housewives, "too slutty" or "too girly". Artists should just depict women as toothless hairy slobs in rags, not the gorgeous creatures they aspire to be. Objectification is going to happen regardless. What's being asked isn't to make women less attractive, but for folk who are attracted to women to not be attracted to women: "I want to look nice, but don't look at me." Get over it and play the game.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Artists should just depict women as toothless hairy slobs in rags, not the gorgeous creatures they aspire to be. That's how they look in Demons Souls and Dark Souls. I've also used this to point out why characters in games like Oblivion look so fucking ugly most of the time. Most people are ugly. It's realistic. Anyways, we're missing the point that I was asking about it. It wasn't that the armor exists, it's that it's damn good armor, that makes you want to use it.
