Mister Jack
I just got this game today. It's still a little bit jarring to see wii graphics on an HDTV but for a wii game it looks pretty good and the gameplay is fantastic, although at times it can be a little overwhelming in its complexity. UnstableArk
I just got this game today. It's still a little bit jarring to see wii graphics on an HDTV but for a wii game it looks pretty good and the gameplay is fantastic, although at times it can be a little overwhelming in its complexity. The learning curve in the beginning is moderately steep, but you'll soon get the hang of things perfectly. What took me a while was learning the status effects and how to achieve a topple, and nailing down burst affinities and chain attacks. Tons of mechanics, but they do well to introduce them appropriately.
FMW
Man, from the outside looking in you make this game seem as complicated as hell UA. I mean, I guess that's normal for a JRPG type game though. Just about every game in the genre has you learning attacks, special attacks, team attacks, elemental attacks, and status ailments. If the game is particularly off the wall (Disgaea for example) then that'll just be the start of things.
FMW
Okay! It took about six months from release, but I've finally finished the game. Xenoblade is finished. It was a battle. There are few games that really make me feel like the designer didn't want me to finish them. SMT Strange Journey made me feel that way. The obstacles to clearing that game are so steep that when I cleared them I felt like I had achieved a superhuman and entirely unreasonable feat. This game made me feel something similar, but in an entirely different way... it just WOULD. NOT. END. JRPGs are notorious for having extended finales, but this game puts all others I've played to shame. It made it hard to finish just because of the ridiculous amount of content. Every time I thought I was winding things down the game would say "nope! Here's another fully rendered giant environment to run around and level up in! Work hard, because there are half a dozen more bosses here too!" Finishing Xenoblade is not proof of my skill, it is proof of my determination. TheFlyingGerbil
so... you liked it? I can't tell if you thought it was worth the effort.
excel_excel
For me, I enjoyed the content, exploration and battling so much that I loved coming to a new area massively open to explore, and then getting rewarded for that exploration. FMW
so... you liked it? I can't tell if you thought it was worth the effort. Good question! I definitely really like the first 50 hours or so. The next 35-40 hours got progressively less compelling. I stopped getting new party members and new moves slowed down and generally there was less discovery in the second half. They also moved away from the huge natural looking Bionis environments to the more industrial Mechonis. These environments were less cool to explore and were less recognizable as being body parts. The second half the the areas didn't have changing music from day to night either, just one track per zone. And then the closer I got to the finale the longer and more in depth the cinematics got... which actually counts as a negative thing, because the story in this game (let's face it) is pretty tepid stuff. So I actually stopped playing the game for a long while just three or four hours out from the very end of everything because I finally ran out of momentum from the totally excellent first fifty hours. When I went back to finish the game, it was mostly just because it bothered me that I'd put 80 hours into the game and still hadn't reached the credits. So did I like it? I dunno. I really liked half of it. The other half was less good. Whether the game counts as a net positive or not, it should be noted that at the very least I admire the game. When the biggest problem with a game is that there are maybe too MANY giant, beautiful, loading screen free environments and that maybe there's too MUCH meticulously choreographed and fully voiced cinematic... well, those are kind of first world problems you know? Too much of a good thing doesn't make the good thing less good.

TheFlyingGerbil
I really need to crack out Chronicles as it will probably take until this one comes out to complete it. I think I remember complaints that chronicles was too sprawling? it certainly doesn't look like they've compressed this one any even with the unnatural speed they seemed to be running. I also really hoped they'd change the creepy doll-like faces they;re super disturbing.

Vecha
Well, I haven't been on the site forever...but for at least a year they have done a wide range of video game news...but there seems to be more Sony fanboys(with a few "XBOXRULESYOUALLSUCK" people as well).I tend to ignore the comments. Mister Jack
Would you say it's a good replacement for Joystiq? I've been looking for a new source for game news and I'm not about to go back to Kotaku.
TheMightyEthan
I tried to go back to Kotaku, but there was way too much random crap and not enough actual games information.
deanb
Original is coming out for 3DS which is nice cos it was a game I was quite interested in, but no Wii (wait...Wii U playus Wii games and we have one of those...)
TheMightyEthan
Wii U does play Wii games, but you have to have a Wiimote. *Edit* - Or a Wii classic controller if the game supports those, but it definitely has to be a Wii controller, not a Wii U one. deanb
Yeah I know. We're a little short on those, in fact our city seems to be short of them. Used to be you couldn't move for pre-owned wiimotes.
TheFlyingGerbil
Chronicles is only coming to the new 3DS ( unless that video says otherwise as I've not watched it).
deanb
Oh. Well errm...fuck Nintendo then. Also the video is from Nintendo's official channel. Actually now I'm watching through to the end it does say "New Nintendo 3DS XL". Yeah, Fuck em. Can they just not go the way of Sega already?

Vecha
Yeah, I'm excited about XBC on the new 3ds...and I played most of it on the wii. Loved that game. And the sites I go to primarily now are : Dualshockers, Techraptor, Niche Gamer, and siliconera.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Given the amount of traveling I'm going to be doing I'm seriously considering a new 3DS + Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS. That time frame is right around when I should be getting a paycheck that isn't tied to my rent so it's a legitimate possibility. I fall into the "never owned a Wii so I never played it" camp.
CorgiShinobi
I had a Wii, but the game was rare as a GameStop exclusive. I normally don't go for handheld ports, but I'm okay with paying normal retail over $100 for the original console version off eBay.
Pojodin
I really need to get back to playing this soon. I might do that after I finish Super Mario 3D World.
Vecha
Anyone here get XBC3D? Been playing it off and on the last two days. Everyone is yelling about the graphics...and yeah, they don't look fantastic, but boy am I enjoying it. Never beat it on the Wii(got to the place with all the teleportation thingies). Don't know if there'd be a reason to get it if you've finished it...but for those who couldn't get the Wii copy, this isn't too bad.
