If you read the link I lunk http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Rings_of_Power it explains that the Elves can tell when Sauron wields the One and removed their rings to avoid being controlled. Also, they were made independently so are less influenced or some other plot device like that.

Interesting that they left such a powerful ring with a hobbit that whole time haha. Man I need to watch those films again. I guess it's largely due to them being able to keep the ring unlike others.

It's more a case of security through obscurity. Should it be the "One Ring" then none of the higher powers can be entrusted with it, including gandalf himself (as he explains he'd probably be even worse than Sauron, even if he used it to do good). Given Frodo was instructed to not use it his immunity as a hobbit doesn't really matter.

Something for the lawyers of the forum. A breakdown of the contract in The Hobbit. Also turns out there's a clauses added in the new contract which runs foul of a major plot point for the end of the film. From what I can gather it's very much a movie contract in the same way Swordfish has hacker in it, but a much better effort than "a lesser studio artist" may have put forward.
