I can't believe TAY doesn't have a Twisted Metal thread. Ah, well. It might be nostalgia talking but I remember how bad-ass it was when I played it on PS1. Yeah, I know it came on PS2 but I mostly remember the PS1 stuff. :P

 

In saying that, Jaffe got back to me today and apparently, we're going to set our little chat up, next week!

 

I know he said I couldn't ask anything about TM's MP, but seeing as we do know some things about it, what questions do you guys have or are interested in asking? I don't think he'd answer anything too specific, but a broader stroke of the brush wouldn't hurt if you know what I mean. :)

 

Oh, and yep. I'm kinda excited about its MP more than its SP. It would certainly be a good break from all the FPS' out there, no? :)

I have, but I haven't been able to get in the online multiplayer. Kinda was the whole point of downloading the demo.

 

The single player part of the demo is kinda lame. Not the content, but it's almost like the A.I. gangs up on you. For the first five tries, I would always die first, but I noticed I always caused the most damage. I watched the the A.I. cars barely attacked one another. I jump into the fray and I've got two (or maybe three) cars after me.

 

Not to mention controls take some time to get a handle on.

I'm gonna guess that the enemy AI will act differently in the story mode. The single player demo portion was called "challenge mode", which led me to believe that it specifically makes every car target you. I could be wrong, but I doubt they would suddenly make a game where the cars don't target each other, since they've always done it before.

The challenge is to be the last one alive in a free-for-all (like every Twisted Metal), but it seemed like the A.I. didn't know how to act around other A.I. I'm guessing as soon as the player comes near, the programming tells it, "Oh hey, there's a target!" I'm hoping at least in the demo this is the problem.

 

I really want to be online because humans think like humans, thus the opportunity for more balance. Though I bet there are gonna be times where people gang up on someone for whatever reason there is to gang up on a player.

 

EDIT: Okay, I played more single player and this was the result. After 4 minutes, I caused 365 points of damage. The highest amount after me was 65 and the lowest was 16.

 

The online multiplayer better be fixed soon...

I have it pre-ordered, but with people getting fired from Eat, Sleep, Play and David Jaffe leaving the studio effective a month or so after the game launches, with no DLC or expansion planned, I think I might cancel it.

 

I don't know. What do you guys think?

Yeah most MP demos are pre-release. So if you didn't play it then, you can't play it now.

 

As I've said on twitter I can see it being a game that will drop in price fairly quickly. Their european release (providing everyone in europe with the stripped down and censored German version), and at a one month delay, will most likely be a self-fulfilling prophecy of "we don't think we'll get many sales in Europe". Can't think why...

 

I'm not too fussed, still have black, there's still a PS2 at my mums, I only ever really played against (or alongside, run AI, run!!!) my sister anyway.
