Aww, I want you to get mad.

I don't want you to protest, I don't want you to riot, I don't want you to write to your congressman, because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write.

All I know is that first you've got to get mad! You've got to say, "I'm a human being, goddamnit! My life has value!"

I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it and stick your head out and yell, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!"

Well, I got an email from Sony not too long ago. It's basically all the stuff you've been reading online, that is, if you've been investigating it yourself.

Otherwise, this is probably the best thing they can do as of now to stave off any rabid theories. It was still a little vague on exactly what happened, but I'm thinking that's because even Sony is not aware of the damage. I mean, they've hired people to do an investigation.

Aside from my credit card info (and the card is almost maxed out anyway, so it's not like I could get even more in debt), I feel like I was somewhat prepared for this.

Long story short, prior to the Gawker hack, I used a single password on pretty much everything.

So when that went down, I freaked a bit and went through every account I could think of and gave them all new, unique passwords.

In the end, it turned out my info hadn't been compromised, but eh, at least now my shit is more secure.

Anyway, PSN was also using that one password at the time, so I changed it to my Steam password since it was the most secure password I used and knew it by heart.

So thanks to the Gawker fiasco, the damage is very minimal this time. I only had to change my Steam password. Other than that, I'll just need to pay close attention to my credit card transactions, but I've always monitored it closely anyway.

Afaik, I don't remember using my real name or address to register on PSN anything, and I've been keeping a watch on that credit card I never use that was registered. Though I feel that a real name and address would be used for billing that. I feel the likelihood of them actually using mine is probably low though, and I'll keep watch anyways.

I'm oddly amused by the reaction of gamers though. Everyone is using the situation for Live vs PSN talks and the you get what you pay for bs. Fanboys are extremely weird people.

I know what you mean. I mean people are quick to point out that because PSN's "free" that's the reason it got hacked. Of course they seem to forget the fact that XBL can be hacked too.

Was Sony's security and all shitty? Yeah, I'd guess so but people are reacting like Sony's the only company that can be hacked into.

Not to mention I'm kinda getting burned out by all the "news and updates" even if they're just little quips and unfounded rumors. I mean a ton of gaming journos are reporting on this like mad because it's getting a ton of hits. I've only done like 1-3 news posts about it. Yeah the hits are nice, but most of the news are just repeats on itself.

I might be a bit jaded because I used fake info for my region 1 and region 3 accounts, but even so, has there been a confirmed credit card hack? Sony has said now that all the CC info has been encrypted and Deanb showed me a link that is very plausible.

To wit, I'm in no way defending Sony's shitty security or updates. But at the same time I'm more upset at the HACKERS who did all this. I mean it's not like Sony wanted this to happen, right?

What, you kidding me right? Sony were gagging for this or they wouldn't have sued Geohot.

(eurgh wish I could punch anyone with that stupid theory)

As for the onslaught of "news" on this, hey guess who has to swim through em all to update the TAY newsfeed :P

srsly about 1/5+ of all articles yesterday was PSN related.

CC is encrypted, so that's cool. Everything else doesn't really matter since different passwords and it's not like my home address is completely unknown.

A thought occurs to me. Has Sony apologized for this failure on their part even once? Oh sure, they didn't ask to be hacked, but their security failed their customers no matter how you slice it. I've seen words like "we regret" and "it is unfortunate", but I haven't seen anything put out by them that I would call an apology. I don't mean compensation in the terms of free content, although I would expect that much for at least the Plus subscribers. I just mean a public statement along the lines of "We're sorry this happened."

If they make an apology, it will be when they release a proper statement saying exactly what has happened instead of all this vague issue-skirting they're doing now. Hopefully that will go along with the make-up sex (ie FREE STUFF!)

"[sony] has confirmed it is working out a way to apologize to customers with some form of reward, with Patrick Seybold claiming that his team is "evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience."

YAY
