I didn't get an email to change my password.

On the console, I simply created a new one, logged in with said password, and I was signed in to PSN.

Possible that Ethan didn't sign into his main/original PS3?

Weirdly, my PS3 YLOD'd a while back, tried logging in on my Slim (just to see if it worked) and it did. Odd no? I thought I was gonna have to wait on an email. Still, yay! BFBC2 tonight. Doubt I'll be able to hit the broad side of a barn though.

Apparently that's the Japanese Governments fault.

They're stepping in on the issue (I'd assume cos Sony is one of their largest companies and they maybe don't want to see it go down the shitter/damage Japanese reputations). Basically they're making Sony hold back on certain functions until they're satisfied it's fully up to scratch in regards to being hack-proof n such.

I think playing online was (rightly) the priority. A couple of my PS3 owning friends and family were considering trading in so that they could play CoD online (I know, I know).

I did it on the only PS3 I've ever owned...

I tried to sign in and it was like "you need to change your password, we sent an e-mail to the e-mail address linked to this account". Got that e-mail about 15 minutes later.

@Thursday Next You have some interesting friends and family there, I knew CoD was popular, but I never thought it would generate that kind of fan-dism (?)

@TheMightyEthan From what I understand you only get the e-mail if you have never bought anything from the PSN store, if you have you can reset the password from your console. I'm not quite sure how it works. A friend of mine got the "we'll send you an email message" and since he didn't really want to wait he tried signing in again through his console and voila he could change it through his console without the email.

I've seen quite a few examples of such "fanaticism" on Sony's Facebook and PlayStation Blog site. As much as everyone here derides the CoD fanbase (with good reason - my cousin, much as I love the guy, is a stereotypical CoD fan. Doesn't really know his games that well, plays pretty much exclusively racers and shooters, is a bit of a chav...) they are rabidly loyal.

Maybe it was just a weirdness for me then, cause I've bought several things through PSN.

Sony has revealed which games feature in its PlayStation Network 'Welcome Back' scheme.

As detailed on the European PlayStation Blog, all PlayStation 3 users with PSN accounts will be able to choose any two from LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, WipeOut HD/Fury, Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty and Dead Nation.

Meanwhile, PSP users get to choose two from LittleBigPlanet PSP, ModNation PSP, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation.

On top of that, there'll also be 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers and 60 days free subscription for existing members.

Music Unlimited subscribers will also be given 30 days free subscription. A Welcome Back offer is also planned for PlayStation Home, but details are yet to be confirmed.

Infamous and Dead Nation for me so! I'd wager a LOT of people have LBP, Wipeout HD and Ratchet and Clank QFB though.

How do we redeem our games?

Also, I know inFamous will be one of mine, but I already have LBP and none of the others seem especially appealing. Too bad PS3 users don't get Mod Nation Racers.

*Edit* - Nevermind, when I saw Wipeout I was thinking of that boat racing game, but Wipeout HD actually looks cool.

Wipeout HD is very nice indeed. Especially since its the full game with the Rage expansion.

Funny though....the post has been taken down off the PS3 EU blog...in answer to someone in the comments the PS3 EU blog guy said

I am really sorry that I wasn’t able to update you on the welcome back programme in teh timescale I promised. Unfortunately there were a couple of last minute issues that came up that needed finalising. We will be sharing this information with you soon. Hopefully tonight if we can get it finalised.

.....maybe this will be PS+ stuff?

EDIT: Post is back up now

Reply back to someone saying they have all the games offered

I’m really sorry tha there is nothing there that you want. We’ve tried really hard to put together a list of high quality BD games, rather than simply offering cheaper PSN titles. The average metacritic rating for these games is over 84%, so these are high quality games. Unfortunately with a user base of 77m people, it is really hard to offer something for everyone.

They're actually using the user base of 77 million bullcrap <_<

worth noting that all of the the games offered have been on ones offered to PS+ subscribers before.

EDIT: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/05/16/details-of-the-welcome-back-programme-for-scee-users-2/#comments

"look at it is that you’ll have access to lots of free content for 30 days, so should make for a busy month of gaming.

Apologies my message didn’t work. What I meant to say is that unfortunately that is the way PS Plus works, but if you look at as access to a lot of free content for a month, you should have a busy month of gaming."

Just been confirmed by the blog poster. Unfortunately they are PS+ games. Meaning that after the 30 days is up these 'free games' are gone. Now that fucking sucks

MEGA EDIT OF DOOM!

from the EU blog comments "The free games are yours to keep. It is only some of the content you get through PS Plus that will expire at the end of the month."

So we DO get to keep them! Lots of conflicting info there

They posted a similar blog post on the US PSN blog, and that one is pretty clear that the free games are only going to be available for free download for 30 days, but if you download them within that window then you get to keep them forever. It's probably the time limit on downloading them that's causing confusion.

FUCK. ME.

I JUST bought inFAMOUS from Amazon for 10 bucks and I'm waiting on it to arrive. Now it's part of the program. FUCK. And I can't even return it because they'll charge me for shipping it back to them, meaning I'm probably only going to get like $6 back. DOUBLE FUCK.

I'm so getting Wipeout HD+Fury, but now I don't know what to get. Dead Nation looks meh and I already own LBP. The only option is SuperStardust HD. Is it any good?
