P4: Gritty Reboot
My wife has never really been a "gamer," having only started playing games recently as a result of my dastardly influence. Well, she just beat Portal & Portal 2 over the weekend, and mentioned to me that she's got "the itch" to start a new game. What should she play? We have a Wii and a PC. Here's the games she's played/beaten so far: Left 4 Dead Left 4 Dead 2 Borderlands Portal Portal 2 LoZ: Twilight Princess New Super Mario Bros. Wii She tends to like co-op but also really enjoys single-player, and has been loving FPS'es on the PC. I just don't want to give her something with poor game design that throws her off. Keep in mind too that older titles, while beloved by us, sometimes don't come off all that well to newer gamers like my wife. She tried Ocarina of Time and some of the presentation and control mechanisms messed her up to the point where she couldn't beat the Shadow Temple. Thanks for any suggestions. Gyaruson
Well, I would say the same kind of recommendations that I would give my own wife, but most of the games I recommend to her are because she can't grasp the whole "twin analog sticks" thing. Some really fun ones for us/her have been: Kirby's Epic Yarn Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl Rock Band Super Mario World (gotta respect the classics) Castle Crashers (probably the most fun coop we've ever had together) Hope that helps a little... BrainHurtBoy...2
Dwarf Fortress. But seriously, if she's willing to get invested in something, I'd recommend Bioshock. Plays like an FPS, eases you into it, and you can show her that games are more than just distractions or whatever. Aside from that, you could continue down the Valve road and have her play HL2, which has great pacing and excellent level design, and is relatively new. Wind Waker's great, too, but that depends on how much she like Twilight Princess. After you show her one or two of these you can ease her into something like Mass Effect, that's very RPG Lite. Good luck and have fun!
CrowKnow
Randomly picked list of games... haven't played any Wii games recently so took a glance at metacritic Wii SP Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 Super Paper Mario Okami Warioware: Smooth Moves MP Kirby's Epic Yarn Donkey Kong Country Returns PC SP Plants vs Zombies Mirror's Edge Monkey Island MP Killing floor - if she enjoyed the L4D games but, wants something more co-op focused Magicka Minecraft And.. World of Goo, since she recently beat the portal games another puzzle game might be good... also have the option of choosing either wii or pc. TheFlyingGerbil
what about dead space extraction, which has jump in/out co-op? You could probably get it dirt cheap by now too which is always a bonus.
P4: Gritty Reboot
Thanks for all the tips guys. I already own a few of the above, so I might start her on one soon. I suggested Half-Life 2 but she said she'd want to play Half-Life 1 first. I fear it may not have aged as well for her as it did for me though... LaunchOctopus
TF2? Only saying cos my gf is wanting to play it now. Going on that theme: Plants vs Zombies Revenge of the Titans Surely any of the 2D beat-em-ups on WiiWare would be a hit, everyone loves co-op in those The FPS Metroids for SP? Okami seeing as it's so similar to Zelda but is recent(ish)
TheMightyEthan
Okami seeing as it's so similar to Zelda but is recent(ish) Actually that reminds me that my fiancee really liked Darksiders. So did I, for that matter, but I think my fiancee's opinion is probably more relevant to what your wife would like. Also Viva Pinata. Everyone loves Viva Pinata.
