Faiblesse Des Sens
I know Oblivion was meant to have it based off an old article, I was more so asking if it ever got implemented.
deanb
Not to my knowledge, not even mods have it as far as I know. Only game with tree growing I know of is Far Cry 2. Though not really a "plant a seed" kinda growing.
toxicitizen
I know Oblivion was meant to have it based off an old article, I was more so asking if it ever got implemented. I think I know what you're talking about. I remember reading an article on Oblivion back in the days about some tech that allowed to grow trees "naturally" in the game world. I might be remembering wrong, but I think it was a tool for the development team rather than something that would happen in-game. Like, instead of modelling and skinning the trees themselves, they would just "plant" them and the tech would grow the trees in a realistic-looking way. Ah, google found something! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedTree Seems it was originally meant for a golf simulation, but that fell apart and Oblivion ended up being one of the first games to use it. The tech was used in quite a few recent games, according to that list. Here's what it looks like in action. Yantelope
Not sure the best place for this but this would be freaking awesome. http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/xbox-360-pops-up-in-win-8-code-console-game-compatibility-comin/
deanb
yeah it's been going around the net past few days. I'm highly doubtful. Windows 8 runs on X86, with the new addition of ARM. Xbox 360 is a PPC chip. It'd require a hefty bit of hardware emulation. Modern PC's are just getting the hang of the PS2. It doesn't make much sense either. Most of the 360 library is old, and it'll be well in it's twilight years when Win 8 comes out. So a fair chunk is either multi-plat, so already on PC, or will be bought used. At this point people who've really wanted a 360 would have bought one. Wired pads are seemingly being phased out which would make playing 360 games a pain (yeah there's the receiver, but it's like £25. A bit of a hefty sum tbh) It just seems such a pointless thing that I don't see it happening. I don't really see the money to be made in it, which is about the only reason MS would do this given people are already making games specifically for PC, without the need for emulation, anyway. Yantelope
I agree it's beyond a long shot. I do however think it would be awesome to go to the store and buy one disc that would work in either the next Xbox console or a windows based PC. deanb
The current 360 would be a tough job for a modern PC to emulate. The next xbox? Hah!
Yantelope
Well, that's assuming they go the PowerPC route again. Admittedly the rumors are that they're going with a new IBM cell chip which seems really bizarre to me considering it was sort of a debacle for Sony this generation. Of course, going PowerPC again would be good IMO because then there would be a better chance for emulation of previous generation games. deanb
Saw this earlier. Of course, it could be something as mundane as a joint marketing campaign for Sony laptops or nothing at all Would be my bet. There's little sense in joining up console ventures for either of them, and their quite different approaches anyway.

deanb
A Sony-MS made console? That'd be a nightmare. Both for developers and gamers.

deanb
Kinda like Xbox in The Island? I follow the person who spotted it. It's hilarious that sites ran with the Xbox 720/Real Steel image, and are inferring it's a quiet announcement. #gamesjournalism #slownewsday He's not much of a fan of gaming blogs. One in particular Bwahaha. Slowtaku picked up on the image I posted to Tumblr yesterday about the Xbox 720 ad in Real Steel.

madbassman39
I really hope that they don't call it Xbox 720.
Yantelope
I really hope that they don't call it Xbox 720. Boy, me too. I hate the new branding of game consoles. I miss the days when you used to wonder what the new Sega console would be called.
deanb
360 was just to sound larger/as large as the PS3. I doubt they'll go as extreme with the next Xbox.
Vargras
Whatever MS ends up doing, they'd be stupid if they didn't allow backwards compatibility.

Yeah, I'm sure the next one will just be Xbox [subtitle], with no number.
Yantelope
Or maybe it'll just be Xbox and people will have to give it a stupid nickname to separate it.
Vargras
Or maybe it'll just be Xbox and people will have to give it a stupid nickname to separate it. Well they already had the first Xbox, so they can't exactly go that route. It'll probably just be Xbox again, but with either a prefix or suffix. Possibly more numbers. Got a movie poster instead.
