FredEffinChopin
I know I'm late to the party, but comparing Steam to a console isn't exactly fair when discussing always-on policies. Steam's primary method of game distribution is digital; it's not so presumptuous to demand that people log into the internet periodically, especially when they're on a PC, which is pretty much a brick that you plug into a wall if you don't connect it to anything online. If you're using Steam, you're declaring that you've got regular access to the internet from your gaming device. None of that is (or has been) a given with a console, nor is there any *reason* to require people to be logged in to play on one, aside from the one that MS might have been ready to invent as an excuse for the policy. It would needlessly shut out or at least turn off lots of people. I know it's moot now, as it seems like the internet managed to tell them what they should have known already, but just wanted to chime in on that. Mister Jack
The steam comparison is moot because you can play most games just fine without a connection. My internet was out for about five days recently and steam could do everything I wanted it to except download new games.
Thursday Next
Wonder if they will work offline the same way PC games work offline; i.e. after you have authorised them ONline?
TheMightyEthan
While not ideal, I personally can live with one-time-activation. Always-on I cannot live with.
Mister Jack
Why does a console need game activation? I can't believe that console game piracy is such a widespread problem that they would feel the need to inconvenience every single one of their users like this. What I'm afraid of is that it's meant to stop used games more than piracy.
TheMightyEthan
Well Sony has already outright said that PS4 will support used games with no problem, so I'd be surprised if MS actually did anything like this. Even if they do, at least there's the PS4 to fall back on.
Mister Jack
Well even if it does do that, it's too late to change it now, regardless of what Sony said. I doubt they knew much more than the general public did about how the PS4 was going to work while they were making their own console. CorgiShinobi
Oh lawl, Xbox "One." Sorry, not trying to drink the haterade, but that name is... mmm... yeah, ok!
TheRevanchist
Oh, I'll drink the haterade: The name is subdued, but not completely lame. What is completely lame is the Windows 8 look, connecting to your FB, and Kinect. I have not been impressed yet.
Mister Jack
Xbox One?! But that's less than 360!
Strangelove
It's a prequel. Prequels are very popular nowadays.

CorgiShinobi
I really couldn't give any amount of crap about television. But hey! There are females! CONFIRMED: MICROSOFT NOT SEXIST!
Mister Jack
Jesus Christ this is worse than the Wii U presentation. THIS IS WORSE THAN THE WII U PRESENTATION.
WTF
This is a suit presentation. So far it's been an overall Meh. And I was willing to be excited by this. I mean seriously i was hoping for something outside of Halo TV show and a Remedy game. 8 new ips. It could be anything from atrocious crap to excellent stuff. If they're not confident enough to show more than one ip that says a lot. You don't need to show all 8. Just 2 or 3 would be enough. Mister Jack
Good lord, that was underwhelming. I can't believe I'm saying this but the most interesting thing at that event was Call of Duty. They'd better bring it a lot harder at E3 than they did today because they're on the verge of losing me entirely. Also they said "always ready and connected." It's official now.

Mr. GOH!
I'd say that was about on-par with the PS4 intro. Not very excited about either box. Probably won'y buy either for a few years, unless some must-have game is exclusive to one or the other and the price is less than $400. Mal
The general feeling I got (from reading about it) is that it should be renamed 'Mericabox One since a majority of the media features would be worthless outside the US. With that said, it is going towards more of a media box, as predicted somewhat here in this thread.

Alex Heat
From where I'm sitting, it looks like the next thing that'll end up in my entertainment center is a PS4 (okay, it'll probably be a Wii U in like 2 years, depends on which thing price drops first). Probably because I purchased a gaming computer 6 months ago, and most of the PC ports are now equally as good or better than their console equivalents. The new controller has me a bit excited, it looks good, and hopefully it works with the PC, otherwise there might be a problem down the line.
