TheRevanchist
All I know is there's a reason EA happily announced no more online passes, and it wasn't a good will move as two golden turds don't lie. I thought that, too. They must have some money-making scheme in the works, just not the online pass anymore.
TheMightyEthan
Well on Xbone they don't need the online pass because MS built it into the console, but if you take the statement at face value the passes won't be on PS4 either. *Edit* - And I think the fact that they retroactively removed the passes from existing games is a good reason to take it at face value. Waldorf and Statler
This is a double edged turd sword. Make it seem like a good will move, and if the Juan does well they'll be all "Hey don't look at us we are the champion of the people! Microsoft did this! We fought and fought for your rights but they wouldn't listen!" And if MS fails they can just pretend it was never part of their plan to take advantage of it. Hot Heart
http://majornelson.com/2013/06/06/details-on-xbox-one-connectivity-licensing-and-privacy-features/ Follow the second link to find: With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies. Popular Post Mister Jack
My Internet was gone for almost a week not too long ago. I was posting here on my phone. Just because I have internet now doesn't mean it's always there. If my ps3 had required a login at the time I would have gone mad with boredom. Plenty of people have connections that are spotty at best, especially in the Midwest. That's not even getting into international territories.
TCP
According to Kotaku, you can give a game to a friend, but they have to be on your friends list already for 30 days, and that game can only be transfered once. Also, games can be sold used, if the publisher allows it. I'm sure all publishers will be allow that....... deanb
I assume the specific link you're pointing folks to is http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license Which is a fun and confusing read. And yeah it's pretty messed up. It says your games are both on your console and in the cloud, but is that just their buzzword way of saying "you can download the game from our servers, just like you can with 360" or is the game actually playable in the cloud, like how PS4 is looking to work? Also 10 "family members" across multiple consoles is pretty generous, PS3 was pretty cool with 5 log-ins (though I think they knocked it to two now). I can't see 10 lasting that long, or not without needing Gold or something. The trade-in thing is still pretty fucked up. And I'm still unsure how it works with rental companies, I don't trade games much (do buy used though), but I rent quite a bit. Though obviously as I'd be getting a PS4 if anything the Xbone policies won't be affecting me @FDS: Had three weeks without internet when I moved in here, and it's patchy now n then. No internet is 100%, and it doesn't even just matter what our net is like but relies on MS having a consistent uptime too. XBL, PSN, Steam all have scheduled and unscheduled downtime, it'd suck if you're not able to play any of your new games for the week of Xmas.
Mister Jack
If you give a game to someone and use up that one transfer, does that mean that the game can no longer be traded, even by the original owner?
Waldorf and Statler
I'm assuming Microsoft will give something to retail sellers to allow them to resale games as long as the publisher and MS get a cut. Problem is that games are already being sold by these stores used at high prices when relatively new, so for them to want to keep the same margin of profit they'd have to up prices which would lead people to new games all the more often. Unless they're willing to take a major loss on used game sales and keep the relative prices the same.
deanb
Yeah I think they've already said ahead of time that stores will be able to "relicense/reactivate" games. Of course that means you then need to be like some affiliate retailer, and thus no carboot sales, or small time stores, charity shops etc able to sell used Xbox One games. And I can't see stores being able to reactivate forever, so as time passes even big chains like Gamestop and GAME aren't going to be places to get Xbox One games. It'll be a totally lost generation to the future. I honestly have no idea how this is meant to all work out, and I don't think MS do either. I think they're just going to give it a shot, and if/when it fucks up, well RROD fucked up and they still sold well so they'll still do fine out of it likely. Mister Jack
I doubt this will ruin them, but will it beat the ps4? I would be surprised.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I can see this doing well in the US and nowhere else.
Waldorf and Statler
That's how it has been always so the only difference I can see is that it'll lose more market share out of every territory but maybe keep similar percentages in terms of how many consoles per territory. TheMightyEthan
It says your games are both on your console and in the cloud, but is that just their buzzword way of saying "you can download the game from our servers, just like you can with 360" or is the game actually playable in the cloud, like how PS4 is looking to work? It means that all games that are registered to your account, even your purchased-in-store, on-disc games, can be downloaded by you to be played on any Xbone. That is how it currently works with downloadable stuff on 360, the difference here being that it's all Xbone content.
deanb
Yeah I understood the "it gets tied to your account" bit. It's the whole "cloud" bit that gets fuzzy. Cloud gaming is along lines of Gaikai n Onlive, but seems they're mainly using it as a buzzword for "you can download them" Or in a more practical sense "it works kinda like Steam". They seem to be needlessly muddying and already confused and befuddled launch. Still can't work out if it's by accident or on purpose. Saturnine Tenshi
Further and further away from even considering this thing with each bit of information released. Even the "concessions" they're making are duplicitous and anything but a sign of good will.

Mr. GOH!
Digital on day of physical release is cool. No disc required is nice. I guess keeping the status quo of allowing anyone playing on your console to play your games isn't bad, but it does not bode well that this is one of their leading bullet points. "You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time." So you and one other person can play from the library at the same time, though you can give ten people access. If two other members want to play different games on different consoles at the same time, well, sucks to be them. Publishers are in control of used games. EA gets a huge-ass boner for this feature. You can give games away once to someone you've known for a month to limit any grey market in "gift" games. Well, the restrictions on Apple's products are even tighter, and they're rich, so this is fine. Or so MS must think. Their loss when this shitstorm strikes again a bit after launch when folks find out that they're just buying glorified apps for their Xbox that they can't sell, trade, etc. without jumping through hoops. Saturnine Tenshi
It's like me shitting on your face, then coming back five minutes later—only after I realized you weren't unconscious—and offering you gummy bears. Sure, gummy bears are nice. So is not having someone's shit on my face. Edited June 7, 2013 by Saturnine Tenshi
Waldorf and Statler
I think we all need to work in making our analogies and similes NOT about sex or gross stuff.
Mister Jack
Forcing yourself to use a non-gross analogy is like having sex with a hooker who has chlamydia. It's just not as much fun as it would be otherwise.
