deanb
Estimated Time of Arrival. Normally for edits you put "Edit: corrected grammar". Also the 10 people sharing did seem a bit too many people to be sharing full games with.

WTF
Missed the discussion but MS investors do not want their entertainment division, they'd be happy if MS spun it off or sold it off to someone. Their entertainment division has been a resource drain. the Xbox is the sole success from that division. I doubt they'd care enough to want tomake Mattrick fall on his sword. I mean if they want to get him out, they'd probably also take out Hyrb since he's also been involved in the brouhaha of bad PR. What they need is an official PR face that's neither MN or DM. Bring in a nice young friendly lady, someone who caters to including women but not make them look like the Ubi Fragdolls or the kinectcasual market. Someone normal and balanced. It's not impossible to find them and make sure they're relatable and friendly. What MS needs to do is try to get some of the talent or similar talent to that which drained away from the Xbox division. They need to repair their brand image (so does EA for that matter and they're not as stable as ActiBlizz for that matter strictly in financial terms). There's also the thing that it seems like MS might have blown their load a bit earlier instead of sharing it across the three events. Plus launching in 21 markets isn't the smartest thing to do. Not to mention the one thing that's not clear from all of this, we know they need one activation does that mean if you bought it out of a territory do you still need a VPN activation for the first time usage of your console/game? It's region-free but in what sense.

WTF
Yeah I can imagine. Each time I watch their PR I get reminded of House of Cards. They are so eager to fall on their swords, the other companies pretty much just like to watch and sharpen the blades for them. Go on, Fall. Fall. etc
TheMightyEthan
@WTF: You're right Xbox is the sole success of their entertainment division, which is precisely why it would make sense to have public beheadings over this debacle: they screwed up the one thing that was working well for them. I don't think even Microsoft know how their console works any more. Yeah, I guarantee this was all decided high up and now they've got engineers scrambling to make it actually work the way the execs have decided it must. Re: EA not being as stable as Activision: That might be true, but they do have all those sports licenses that have got to provide them with pretty reliable income. Unrelated to all this: I can't help but feel that the loss of sharing of digital purchases is intended as kind of a punishment. "Fine! Have it your way! But now you can't share your games!" Thursday Next
Between The Sims, SimCity, EA Sports, Battlefield and mobile, we're pretty stable. That's not to mention upcoming titles like StarWars.
WTF
It would be odd to screw with Mattrick right after they made him President of the Entertainment division. That would reflect very badly on Ballmer. I mean you don't promote someone to President of a division and then fire him 3 weeks later. Someone else is going to take a fall. Orth was the first public casualty. I wouldn't be surprised if Hyrb is punished even though it's not his fault. As for EA, owning and licensing IPs isn't a sign of stability - if that were the case THQ, Interplay, Atari Infogrames, etc would all be still around. Better profitability is. Now EA is definitely nowhere, not even remotely turkified like those fossils. EA is turning around and building confidence but it's not 'stable' in comparison with ActiBlizz. Like I said in comparison.
Thursday Next
I honestly don't see why you think EA is less "stable" (not really sure what you mean by that now) than Activision. EA is profitable. Is a leader in console, PC and mobile. Has a lot of reliable IP that are pretty much guaranteed to be profitable over the next few years. I just don't get where you are coming from. What element of EA makes you think they are in anyway unstable?
TheRevanchist
Amazon's top sellers in video games right now. 1. XBone 2. LoU 3. PS4 4. PS4 Watchdog Bundle 5. PSN Card 6. PS4 Battlefield Bundle 7. Animal Crossing New Leaf 8. DS4 9. PS4 Killzone Bundle 10. FC3 I wish Amazon had the number of orders listed, because I'm fairly certain the PS4 outweighs them by a bit when all of the PS4s are added together. TheMightyEthan
Well and I'm sure Xbone is experiencing a preorder spike right now after announcing the DRM change, whereas Sony had that spike after their E3 conference. It'll be more interesting to see the rankings in 3 months. *Edit* - Also, notice that only 3 of the top 10 are not Playstation items. Xbone, Animal Crossing and FC3. Mister Jack
Ballmer has been called the worst CEO in America ever since that windows 8 debacle. I doubt he could look much worse than he already does. And I'm not even saying they should fire Mattrick. Just demote him or something. Get him the hell away from PR because he completely sucks at it.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Ballmer has been called the worst CEO in America ever since that windows 8 debacle. He has? And what debacle? Windows 8 has been selling fine and people don't think of it was badly as Vista.
TheMightyEthan
Supposedly the one-time connection requirement when setting up the console is due to the requirement that you get a day-one update that they've been planning to have all along. I believe this one because it actually does make sense: you know your software isn't going to be finalized early enough to preload it onto all consoles as they're manufactured, so you just put in placeholder software that tries to connect to get the final version. If that's the case though it seems like if they really wanted to they release a disc with the update on it for people without broadband. Faiblesse Des Sens
On a serious note Microsoft is the one so confident in their network they attached a number to it. At least I don't think any issues will be as bad as the Wii U. Edited June 21, 2013 by Faiblesse Des Sens
CorgiShinobi
Even though I have my own amazing headset, I'd say Xbone does win in the department of "included" headsets. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/21/xbox-one-headset-revealed Of course, I'm sure that's what also justifies the $499 price. Perhaps Sony's included headset is meant to suck to motivate consumers to buy the expensive PlayStation certified headsets? (Well, besides keeping cost down.)
TheMightyEthan
I don't think that's included. They said at E3 that no headset was included because Kinect has a mic.
CorgiShinobi
Beraahh?! It looks so much like the crappy included 360 headset I guess I assumed the Xbox One was going to do the same. Man, using the Kinect as a mic for multi would be like using the PS Eye: Bad.

Mister Jack
Microsoft is now saying that family sharing was not just time trials and that you could have shared entire games. Not to be cynical but I think they're full of shit. First of all, if it did work this way then buying one new game would be like getting nine used games for free. No publisher would ever sign off on that. Second, if sharing really was that awesome, they would have been talking about it all the time in detail from day one. It's never going to happen either way now so there's really no penalty for them if they lie to save face. Eleven
It's not 9 used games for free though. It's just 2 games. Since other people can't play the share at the same time. I would have expected you to lose access once you share the game, and I don't know why they decided that you can always play plus you have a share. But it's just the same as sharing a physical disk. I might have asked MS to remove the original owner's ability to play the game while it's shared. But I don't think it's as bad as you think it is for publishers. They have forced online checks for it after all.
