Mister Jack
EVERY online gaming community is an embarrassing one sooner or later. You just can't escape it.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I don't know many 12 year olds that buy their own stuff as opposed to getting their parents to pay for it (pretty sure 12 year olds can't pay for XBL anyway) The higher the price the less likely their parents are going to get it for them. I didn't think I needed to clarify that.
deanb
I'm probably generalising a massive massive amount here, but do you think the kids with the parents that don't buy them everything they want are the ones that are screaming about all the nigger faggots whose mum they shagged last night, as opposed to the kids whose parents buy their little angel whatever will make their puddingtop happy? edit:
Saturnine Tenshi
I don't think that's how it works. But FDS is right. I can see it being one reason why the 360 sold so well to parents of teenagers, what with the deceptive Nothing Comes in the Box way they went about selling the system. TheMightyEthan
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/27/microsoft-further-clarifies-xbox-headset-incompatibility/ 360-compatible headsets will not be compatible with the Xbone because: "The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console," Microsoft told Game Informer in a statement. "This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input." Actually, it did not require that. I mean, yes, higher bandwidth future addons may have required a different plug, but there's no reason that you can't also have a standard mini audio plug on there. It's not like they're big. The 360 controller's port is already a standard audio plug with proprietary data ports on either side of it, there's no reason something like that is impossible. Microsoft goes on to say that it "plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio," though it does not say what form those solutions may take. Could it be MS wants to sell an adapter dongle? No, it's not like MS has a habit of leaving out near-essential items and charging for them later...
Waldorf and Statler
MS lost so many points with me with the god damn wireless for the 360. I swear if my 360 wasn't connected right next to my router I'd be fucked.
TheMightyEthan
Does the Xbone have built-in wifi? Wikipedia doesn't say anything about networking.
Waldorf and Statler
I'm sure it's a given now considering the 360 started to have wi-fi built in with the elite if I recall correctly. Not including it again would be borderline retarded. Then again these are the people who almost went through with the original Juan plans. TheMightyEthan
No, it wasn't until the 360 S that it started having built-in wifi. And yeah, I feel like I remember something saying the Xbone has 802.11n wifi, but I can't actually find it.
Thursday Next
I would love it if their "super always connected box" lacked even the most rudimentary of internet connection technology.
deanb
Yeah I never got folks making jibes about sony being "proprietary" when you could use a standard HDD, USB keyboard, regular bluetooth headsets, and MS have thier own plugs for headsets (now incompatible once more), two different incompatible HDD cases. Didn't it take a while until you could use USB flash drives too? As for Wi-Fi, yeah it uses Wi-Fi a/b/g/n as well as "Wifi Direct" for the controller* but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as what Samsung phones have. *incidentally means no bluetooth support still.
TheMightyEthan
You can plug a standard headset into an MS controller no problem. And yes, it did take a long time before you could use flash drives.
Faiblesse Des Sens
What about USB headsets? but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as what Samsung phones have. WiFi Direct is a universal standard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Direct If you're thinking of S-Beam IIRC that uses NFC to establish a connection between two devices that they turn into a WiFi Direct connection. Which is clever as it makes that process incredibly simple.
TheMightyEthan
I don't have any idea, I would assume a USB headset probably doesn't work, but it's not as if a mini audio port is a proprietary connector.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Either way it's a limitation the PS3 didn't have. Hopefully that's looser on X1.
Baconrath
Microsoft no longer charging thousands for Xbox 360 game updates I don't know if they did this because they're transitioning from the 360 to the Xbone and/or for damage control or if the size restrictions (etc.) are still in place. They still will charge devs for patches that they deem excessive in number. Will they still charge for patches to Xbone games or have they finally learned from the 'Minecraft problem?' TheMightyEthan
How would one go about plugging a mini-audio headset into a PS3?
Mister Jack
What do they consider "excessive"? If a game needs to be fixed just let them fix it.
Faiblesse Des Sens
How would one go about plugging a mini-audio headset into a PS3? What is mini-audio? Google isn't turning up anything. Is it another term for 3.5mm jacks?
TheMightyEthan
3.5 and 2.5mm. The 360's port is actually 2.5mm, the same as the ones on most flip phones/cordless home phones. You can actually use an old flip phone headset on the 360 with no problem.
deanb
Nah I was talking of Wi-Fi direct not s-beam. I've only ever seen it in Samsung phones so far so assumed it was a Samsung feature. Was unsure if MS "wi-fi direct" had been the same given it didn't seem to serve the same purpose at all. What are the two ports for on the headset then if standard 2.5mm can plug in fine? Baconrath
What do they consider "excessive"? If a game needs to be fixed just let them fix it. That's what's kind of fishy about it. : (
TheMightyEthan
What are the two ports for on the headset then if standard 2.5mm can plug in fine? Stuff like the controller keyboard. The 2.5mm plug just plugs in to the middle one, where stuff like the chat pad takes up all three plugs.

It'll actually pull a shitload of indie developers over. The way it currently stands, you can release a game on Steam and get robbed by pirates, or you can release a game on XBL and get robbed by Microsoft (on top of an estimated $40,000 to release an upgrade, the developer rarely gets to decide the price of their XBL content). I don't think this is so much XBone related as it is a long overdue change in policy. People have been complaining about this for a while. Pretty sure it's a big reason why Jonathan Blow's new game is supposed to be PS4 and PC exclusive.
Faiblesse Des Sens
you can release a game on Steam and get robbed by pirates Um, if you only release your game on Steam, then the likelihood of it being pirated is very low as they have to crack the encryption and whatnot. What the fuck are you even talking about?
