Waldorf and Statler
I'm glad I'm no longer a Microsoft lover, or that image would piss me off lol
Mercurial
Just cause I feel like it a cheap HDMI cable doesn't really mean anything it's a digital signal.
Mister Jack
Xbox One is designed to work with Kinect plugged in. It makes gaming better in many ways – from the ability to say “Xbox On” and get right to your personalized homescreen, to the ability to control your TV through voice, Smartglass and more. Kinect allows you to search for your content, instantly move between games and your personalized dash and more with just your voice. Kinect helps you pick up and play by automatically knowing which controller you have in your hands. No more need to interrupt your friends game or navigate through multiple UI screens to sign in and tell the system which controller you are holding. It will even bind the controller to the console if its currently unbound – no searching for special buttons! Of course – these are just a few of the system wide benefits of having Kinect. Games use Kinect in a variety of amazing ways from adding voice to control your squad mates to adding lean and other simple controls beyond the controller to full immersive gameplay. That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor. - MARC WHITTEN, CHIEF XBOX ONE PLATFORM ARCHITECT Edited August 12, 2013 by Mister Jack
TheMightyEthan
So wait, Kinect isn't required now? Nice.
Mister Jack
I'm still gonna wait a while. 500 bones is a lot to drop on short notice. Also, I'm already an early adopter for the ps4, I don't plan to be the guinea pig for TWO new consoles.
TheMightyEthan
I'm not going to be an early adopter of either console most likely (unless I get sucked in by Destiny), but this makes me less hostile to the idea of someday getting an Xbone. Waldorf and Statler
Ethan: I'm getting sucked in by Destiny. Waiting 3-4+ months should be enough to know whether there are issues with the console. Knowing Sony it should be fine. But if MS is really overclocking the Juan then people really need to wait. TheMightyEthan
See, with all this backpedaling the Xbone is quickly becoming my most likely console, simply because I'm being honest when I say I do not care at all about any of PS's exclusives. I just wish Destiny weren't console-exclusive.
UnstableArk
I just wish Destiny weren't console-exclusive. Uhh...It's not? Unless you mean not on PC? Edited August 13, 2013 by UnstableArk
TheMightyEthan
I mean "exclusive to consoles". There is no PC version.
UnstableArk
Okay, I gotcha. I think they did mention that they might look into a PC version eventually, but that doesn't really bring much confidence. Here's hoping someday.
Waldorf and Statler
Is it a question of not liking PS exclusives or actually liking Xbox ones? Let's be honest here: Forza- most recent one seems to be a bit forced and they're brought out a bit too consistently where the novelty has worn out for me. Not to mention a racing game is not a system seller and never will be for me [and if I had figures I'd assume for most people too]. Halo- This one is I guess up to you. Personally Halo 4 seemed like a fantastic game but, as something I never imagined would happen, Halo has lost its flavor. It's no longer the go-to console shooter for most people and with my trend of disliking most games where the multiplayer is its bigger appeal I'm done with it. Remedy- These guys I'll miss even if their games weren't 90+ ratings. Lionhead I won't even talk about, neither will I talk about Rare. Both have seen way better days. I was an xbox/microsoft fanboy up until the end of high school. My tastes have changed and I'm sure they'll continue this route. All to you if you enjoy xbox exclusives more, those days are long gone for me.
Faiblesse Des Sens
What about Rare? No, kidding, I know why they didn't even get a mention... RIP in peace Rare.
Waldorf and Statler
I bought both of the Viva Pinatas and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. I had fun with Viva Pinata for all the 1-2 weeks I played it. Nuts and Bolts I basically stopped playing once I built the vehicle I wanted. Rare has the technical talent to make a proper game, they just don't have the management or the leadership. It's a shame because they get a lot of crap but you know something is wrong when all plans are chugging along for Banjo Kazooie 3 and somebody in management says "nobody buys platformers anymore. Let's instead make what amounts to lego cars without a proper emphasis on competitive multiplayer. People love those" I remember Grant Kirkhope talking about it in the Guest Grumps episode. He says he was part of the team saying that wanted to make BK3, but that at the end of the day they didn't have enough support to make it. God it really is a shame. Alex Heat
With the announcement that Kinect won't be required, I've pretty much run out of beefs to have with the Dogbox. So now I can say 'Yeah, I'll grab one in 2-3 years', only without any disgust in my voice.
TCP
I don't know, I'll still be dropping Xbox this gen. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. They tried to fuck us. They stopped at the last second, but the intention was there. Sony, meanwhile looks like they're actually learning from their mistakes. I'd be more likely to get into PC gaming, you know, for the mods and indie stuff. Between that and PlayStation, I feel like I'll have my basis covered. Waldorf and Statler
If by Sony learned from their mistakes you mean both positives and negatives to consumers then yes I agree. Let us not forget they are putting online play behind a paywall. Sure it's a very sexy paywall that if used right is well worth it, but a paywall it still is. The power of the cloud. I don't know i had to say it.
Mister Jack
I was gonna keep paying for PS Plus either way so I'm pretty unaffected by the news, but I can see how it'd be a drag. On the plus side, you don't need PS Plus to play any of the free to play games like Warframe or Planetside 2. Microsoft, that's what you SHOULD have done with World of Tanks. TCP
They're doing it right though. Not only do you get a bunch of free games and deals if you have the service, you can still use Netflix, group chat, etc if you don't have it. Yes it's a paywall but you don't have to look far to see it could be so much worse. Not much to complain about IMHO.
deanb
Yeah the Xbox One reveal was pretty much their vision of the console, just cos they've since reversed on many of thier decisions ("done a 360 and walked away"), doesn't mean the stuff like Kinect required, always online, 24 hour check-ins, NSA back-door, blah de blah, will remain gone. They're still charging for free and subscription based stuff, still using AA batteries, and still not allowing user replaceable HDDs (despite requiring installs). The paid for MP is a bit of a kick in the balls going on from PS3 to PS Plus, but on the other hand it's got all the existing PS Plus stuff with it. TheMightyEthan
Is it a question of not liking PS exclusives or actually liking Xbox ones? I don't care about any exclusives, for either console, except for Halo. Though if they announced Viva Pinata 3 I'd be all over that shit. Waldorf and Statler
I don't think VP3 could even save Rare. I mean if they gave one of their most demanded titles, Killer Instinct, to another studio to develop maybe that's saying something about the confidence Microsoft has for Rare for anything that isn't Kinect/avatar related. TCP
Xbox One will no longer be available in Finland, Russia, Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden in 2013. I can't imagine gamers in those markets are very happy.
Waldorf and Statler
Sony doesn't even have to try in Europe. I mean the PS brand is more popular there already, but jesus MS.
