deanb
Yeah I think MS launch strategy at the moment seems to be abandon all markets they've not already got a strong presence in (they'd already announced no Japanese launch). Which might imply they've not got the funds to try and push into extra markets, or production output. Or both I guess.
Waldorf and Statler
I just think it's more of a management decision. And to be honest a smart one, at least for Japan. The Japanese tend to be a bit racist when it comes to non-Japanese stuff. Not to say the only fault the xbox had in not being appealing to the Japanese was that it was American, but it sure as hell didn't help. When asked in a poll a common answer was "we have to support our own". Why should management bother with a country that is doing their hardest to not accept them? The money in marketing and localizing probably is too much.
deanb
And the excuse for Europe, with no homegrown console for our "racism"?
Waldorf and Statler
I wouldn't know without seeing sales figures/profits/regulations on those countries. But admittedly if it's nowhere near as bad as Japan, which it shouldn't be, then it's a dumb decision.
Thursday Next
Dropping Russia is absolutely bewildering. It's one of the biggest economies on the planet, is disputed territory in so far as consoles go and is still growing at a decent pace when many other countries are seeing 0 or negative growth. If you're gonna drop territories drop Spain (which is PS owned anyway) and Italy, both of which have a struggling economy and are already at MS console saturation. Also, having both the developers of Witcher 3 and Battlefield 4 unable to play your game on release when they were at your hardware launch event is laughable. TheMightyEthan
Also, having both the developers of Witcher 3 and Battlefield 4 unable to play your game on release when they were at your hardware launch event is laughable. I don't think I understand what this sentence means.
deanb
Witcher 3 is developed in Poland, a market Xbox One is not launching in (and I'm not sure if it was changed but it's not supported either). Same with Battlefield 3, DICE being a Swedish studio. The guys who make games for Xbox One, games MS brought up on stage to show off for their console, won't actually be able to play them as consumers. It's bloody retarded. I imagine there's many Japanese studios in the same position too.
TheMightyEthan
Aha, gotcha. At least without the always-on DRM you can import?
Thursday Next
Not sure, since you have to "activate" the Xbone, it might be supported in Sweden, but if it isn't you are SOL. "After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again." http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update If so, I don't think you could import without using VPN to activate which is just setting yourself up for a headache in the future. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, far from ideal, but it's much more manageable than daily connections. If you really wanted an Xbone for some reason.
Waldorf and Statler
IfMicrosoft gave such a fuck you to my country of choice I'd rather get the ps4. You're gonna have to go through so much bullshit to fully enjoy the console.
Waldorf and Statler
So one of the moles in neogaf made quite the comments on upcoming MS presentation. - no live demos. Due to all the changes console is under performing. Also due to this early October release is out of the table. Coincidentally ps4 is done and should be out late October to early November. -one of MS exclusive developers making a MOBA game dropped the project. Talented developers left MS or went to that new studio. Those who stayed are making tv content. - rare is sticking with Kinect. No BK3 or anything that good. -MS bought an exclusive from Platinum games. Trying to buy more Japanese devs. Weird since Platinum title not slated for release on West. - countries that MS dropped they will give excuses like localization. But some of these have a language like English. - due to problems it seems like some of the exclusives might be pushed back. - depending on sales ms might eventually release a package without Kinect early 2014. I'd like to link you but I only read it from my friend's account. Take it with a grain of salt but apparently mole is reliable enough. TheRevanchist
Another rumor was that FIFA 14 would come free with the XBone. I only know one person IRL who has bought a FIFA title, so I assume this is not to capture the US market.

TheMightyEthan
-MS bought an exclusive from Platinum games. Trying to buy more Japanese devs. Weird since Platinum title not slated for release on West. Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. With Xbone not launching in Japan, what good would a game not coming out in the West be?
Mr. GOH!
- countries that MS dropped they will give excuses like localization. But some of these have a language like English. Languages like English? Every language is like English in that it's a language. Languages that are similar to English still require localization. Fuck, I think they may even localize English language games for specific countries to account for differences in spelling and vocabulary. deanb
I think he meant as in they've got a popular language; like English. So going "well we can't release to Sweden because we can't translate to Swedish" when most of them likely know English (or German/Spanish/French etc) would be a bunk excuse. We live in a post-British Empire world. A large part of the world speak English well enough. Certainly within spots like Europe. And like hell do they do localisation on spelling. Whenever we're saying "Oh film/game X won't come out in UK until n months after UK because it'll need translating" we're joking. And this is MS, they've not even bothered to localise Word over the past two decades, doing it to games is asking a bit.
TheMightyEthan
The don't localize for spelling because your spelling is wrong. Why would they make their software wrong?
Waldorf and Statler
@ethan on platinum title:Hence why even the mole said it was weird. It might be for a later release in Asia. And yeah sorry for misleading wording, I have to survive on mobile for another week or so. What dean said is what I gathered from the neogaf post. He may have clarified later Edited August 19, 2013 by Waldorf And Statler
danielpholt
Looks like EA and Microsoft are partnering to give gamers a free copy of FIFA 14 on all Xbox ONE pre-orders. I'm sure this'll help sell people on the console. That being said, i'm awful glad it doesn't take the offer of a free FIFA game to drive me down a certain console's path. Thursday Next
I do wonder how much of the I must pre-order a console market overlaps with the I must have FIFA market... I guess we'll see.
TheMightyEthan
The FIFA thing is only in Europe, I think. Anyway, here's a list of MS's anticipated launch games. Lucky for me all of the ones I'm interested in will also be on PC.
Mr. GOH!
Like all launch lists, that looks pretty anemic.

Baconrath
One thing I wish the XBLA marketplace had was the ability to search for things based on price. Granted this probably won't happen for the same reason grocery stores always put the milk in the back, but still...it would be nice.
