Waldorf and Statler
One thing I wish xbl would do is not overcomplicate searching for games for the sake of showing me Ads
Mister Jack
Sounds like somebody hasn't been eating enough Doritos.
deanb
So Gamescom is over. What did they do to the on-off switch?
Mister Jack
http://metro.co.uk/2013/08/28/microsoft-phil-harrison-interview-absolutely-no-plans-at-all-for-xbox-one-without-kinect-3939852/ We'll see how long they keep that attitude. Right now, at least according to gamestop, interest in the PS4 is literally twice as high as the Xbone. If that ends up being the case once they come out, I doubt they'll continue to insist that everyone has to have a kinect.

Mister Jack
Boy I bet they really hate having to give that extra week to the PS4 in the US, but it was probably inevitable after all these changes they had to make.
Thursday Next
Will be interesting to see if Sony respond by bringing EU launch in line with US.
TCP
This is what I expected. Watch Dogs was listed as a day one launch game, but it's not coming out till November 19, so obviously the Xbone isn't due till after that. Good on Sony for getting the weeks headstart, everything seems to be going their way, I'll be very interested in those sales numbers from both companies for the holiday season. TheMightyEthan
I'm still torn as to which console to get. I'll be getting one when Destiny comes out, but I just can't decide. PS4 has better hardware and is cheaper and has off-screen play with Vita which is FUCKING AMAZING. Xbone has Halo. Because of Halo, I know I'll be getting an Xbone eventually, so I feel like I might as well just get it for Destiny so I don't have to get both. But at the same time, off-screen play is a huge deal for me. Also Destiny has "exclusive content" on Sony platforms, but that's really not nearly as big a consideration for me as the other stuff is. I guess I've still got like 6+ months to decide.
Mister Jack
Maybe I'm in the minority here but Halo 4 was a huge "meh" for me. I had a decent amount of fun playing co-op with friends but I'm pretty sure that's because I was playing with friends more than the game itself. The campaign just felt very dull and generic and the multi was...well, it's Halo multi, we know how it works by now. It's not a BAD game, but I'm starting to wonder why people praise recent Halo games so much while at the same time writing off Killzone: Shadow Fall as generic and uninspired. Maybe I'm missing something but Halo is starting to feel every bit as generic to me as Killzone ever was. Basically I'm saying it'll take more than Halo to make me want the Xbone.
TheMightyEthan
Here's the thing with Halo 4: I can't argue with anything you just said, but I still loved it for some reason. The play mechanics are just constructed in a way that I find intensely enjoyable, so it being/becoming generic doesn't really bother me. Killzone, on the other hand, just played like meh, imo. KZ2 was okay, KZ3 I didn't even finish.
TheMightyEthan
After thinking about it some more, I think what will be the ultimate factor for me will be how multiplats compare on the two. If PS4 is consistently and significantly better than Xbone then I'll get a PS4, if they're the same, or if Xbone is better (hah!), then I'll get an Xbone. FredEffinChopin
Would you like an opinion on the decision Ethan, or just kinda thinking out loud? I've got some strong opinions on it, and I won't offer them unless I'm sure you want to hear them haha. TheMightyEthan
Both. Other people's opinions help me think through my own.
TCP
Don't worry Ethan, I'm here to help.I'd get a PS4. I think if you look at Sony's first party studios, there's going to be a ton of great exclusive games, we don't know about anything Sony Worldwide Studios is doing for the PS4 past February, but they're all working on PS4 games. Outside of Halo, there's not a ton of Xbox exclusives (Titanfall but I doubt that remains exclusive, plus you have a PC). Not to mention all the Japanese games that are exclusive to PlayStation. Just saying, if you get a PS4 first, you can wait on the Xbone and let the exclusives like Halo and Fable (lol jk) pile up for when you're ready for an Xbone. Plus, as you mentioned, the Vita remote play sounds AWESOME. Also think of all the cross-buy and cross-save PS4/Vita games. Lastly, if you're doing Destiny on PS4, you'll be able to play with your good pal TCP, that's the greatest reason of all!
TheMightyEthan
Well, let me put it this way: the last system-selling Sony exclusive game for me was Shadow of the Colossus. Though you did remind me about Infamous, Media Molecule, and Quantic Dream, which while not system-sellers on their own they are attractive enough to matter on the scales. Xbone literally only has Halo (and fucking Viva Pinata if they would make a third one). *Edit* - I take that back, Gravity Rush was the last system-selling Sony exclusive for me. Fucking great game. *Edit 2* - Let me put it yet another way: given that, due to Halo, it is 99% certain that I am going to get an Xbone next fall, the question is whether I should get a PS4 also, when Destiny releases, or just get the Xbone earlier. Mr. GOH!
Get the Xbone earlier unless you really want both. If you wanna play Destiny with your PXOD friends, though, I imagine a PS4 is your best bet. The Xbox system sellers for me were Mass Effect and GTAIV before PC ports were announced for both. The PS3 system seller was its $200 price tag. I think your life would be better, more filled with joy and light, if you just let Halo go, Ethan. Your dedication to that tired franchise weighs down your soul in ways you will only perceive once you release yourself from that fandom's pernicious grip. It would also save you $500, which is nothing to sneeze at.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, at the moment I'm leaning toward getting a PS4 when Destiny comes out, and then maybe not day-one-ing next Halo (which actually doesn't even look like it will be Halo 5). CorgiShinobi
All I can say is, if you're really looking forward to Destiny, I'm getting the vibe that most of us here are hopping aboard the PS4 platform. It's up to you which you get first, though the PS4 has always been the better option to me. Not because of all the previous controversies, but the stated reasons of exclusives, second parties, not to mention there are some fantastic PS4 bundles which cost the same as the standard Xbox One.
Thursday Next
Back on topic, I'd not bother with an Xbone largely because if you have a PC and a PS4 you will get all the PS4 exclusives and all the Xbox One "exclusives" (eventually). Mr. GOH!
MS is is going to release the new Halo for PC eventually?
TheMightyEthan
Doubtful. *Edit* - Moved the discussion about 1st/2nd/3rd party to the English vs. English thread. Edited September 5, 2013 by TheMightyEthan
Thursday Next
No idea if they will or not. But other exclusives, Titan Fall being a prime example, will be on PC. My point being that PC + PS4 will give you a broader spectrum than PC + XBox One. There will still be one or two exceptions but then I never really was overly enamoured of Halo.
Mr. GOH!
I've never been a Halo (or Gears of War) fan, either, and I agree with your overall argument. I was just surprised by the claim that all Xbone exclusives would be making their way to PC eventually.
Thursday Next
I see. Big difference between exclusives and "exclusives". PS exclusives will all only be on PS. Xbox has a different interpretation of the word, hence quotation marks.
