Trade in your PS3, get $100 towards an Xbox One at MS Stores.

Also rumour is a cheaper blu-ray free Xbox One model is heading our way this year

http://www.techspot.com/news/55499-xbox-one-in-2014-march-update-white-console-maybe-a-cheaper-model.html

So if you're wanting an all-in-one entertainment solution, then Xbox One ain't really going to be what you want.

That would be an incredibly stupid decision.  It would mean retail games wouldn't work on the console.  From (at least my) consumer prospective a $499 one with a BDROM is a better value than a $399 one without.

I don't care how central to your vision Kinect is, that vision obviously isn't clicking with consumers.  Dump the fucking Kinect.

If your goal is to make an all in one entertainment box for the living room, why the fuck would you ever choose to drop the blu-ray player? You'd have to be a stupid asshole to think that's a good idea. Everyone who cares about their entertainment setups has a blu-ray player. Even now, though, hardly anyone gives a shit about the kinect.

People are saying that Microsoft would forgo the Blu-ray drive due to how Sony is included in the licensing fees associated with Blu-ray. The exact amount Sony makes on each Xbox One isn't really clear because truthfully all of the companies in the Blu-ray Disc Association would be receiving an amount, from my understanding. An article I saw suggested it was something like $2, but I'm doubtful Microsoft would be that frugal.

Either way, drop the Kinect 2.0 and Blu-ray to make a $300 Xbone and I'd jump on it.

Yeah anyone that ever goes along the lines with "Xbox 360 didn't have blu-ray cos it's developed by Sony" seems to forget:

  • It still came with DVD, which was developed by..*drumroll*..Sony & co
  • The 360 chip uses prototype Cell architecture.
  • Sony ain't exactly selling Linux Vaio's.
  • PS3 can play WMA files
  • Xbox Music is powered by Gracenote which is owned by...*drumroll*...Sony
  • Xbox Video contians TV and shows from...Sony

These companies are so huge and across so many industries that there's even the occasional case of them suing themselves (I think in Microsoft's case it was a near miss). Hence why really if discussing relations between the two on a console front it's Microsoft Hardware & Entertainment, and Sony Computer Entertainment.

Incidentally HD-DVD wasn't anything to do with MS, it just was the HD format they chose. If they really had a horse in that race it wouldn't have been a half-hearted add-on.
