deanb
http://news.xbox.com/2016/05/16/xbox-live-gamertag-release/ Bunch of Gamertags getting released.
TheFlyingGerbil
The main thing I got from that is you can change your gamertag once for free which last time I looked cost about £8 so that's pretty cool as I imagine there are quite a few people that are embarrassed by the names they chose when they first signed up many moons ago. deanb
Oooh. I didn't read too deeply into it as I don't own a Xbox console but be great to change the original name I chose. Though I'm a PC/GFWL player so I'll be waaaayyy down their list for being allowed to change.
TheFlyingGerbil
Try this link I won't try it myself as I like my name but looks like you just sign in and type your new name in the box and check availability. Shows up for me and I'm not gold so i don't think it's linked to the release of old tags. the only reason I found it is someone put a Facebook post about it up this morning and I don't click links from Facebook so did a search and that came up. TheMightyEthan
Anybody can change their name, what they're "releasing" are old tags that aren't being used anymore, so new people can claim them.
TheMightyEthan
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/manage-gamertag-and-profile/xbox-gamertag-release-faq Turns out you only get a free change if your gamertag was chosen automatically when you signed up (meaning you didn't choose it yourself). If you got to choose it yourself then you have to pay to change it. I'm not sure under what circumstances you wouldn't have gotten to choose for yourself though. Eleven
So is Microsoft's plan for their consoles to release incremental hardware updates like the Scorpio? Does that mean we'll have backwards compatibility for all games this generation and all games in the future? I wonder how long they will require games to support older hardware?
TheMightyEthan
I doubt it will be backward/forward compatibility forever, it'll probably cover a couple of iterations at a time. Also, it looks like this might be Sony's plan moving forward too, not just MS's.
deanb
http://news.xbox.com/2017/02/28/introducing-xbox-game-pass/ MS doing a Netflix style gaming subscription. I doubt you'll see any recent releases on there, sort of a more extended version of their Games With Gold I'd guess.
Eleven
This is pretty cool, but I seems like you gotta wait for some games since they don't release them all. But I hope once you download one (and they remove it from the store next month) you'll have it until you delete it. Saturnine Tenshi
I'd forgotten this console exists until the thread popped up in new content.
deanb
Ethans post from September is literally the last post on Xbox prior to mine. I guess "game announced at launch gets cancelled" isn't much worth posting about. I was kinda excited for a bit more Crackdown but that was announced like...2-3 years ago? I kinda like the newer "announce a game like 5 months before launch" we got with Fallout 4 and now Mordor. in fact...
TheMightyEthan
Wait, was Crackdown cancelled?
deanb
AFAIK pretty much a thing at this point. Heavily heavily delayed and not spoken of anymore at the very least. Scalebound definitely canned. I know it's a big thing of late, especially with PS4 recently getting HZD that the Xbone is sorely lacking in big hitter exclusives atm so it's been a bit of a topic of all the previously announced games not really materialising. Mal
You got to marvel at how trounced the Xbone is this generation. I'm turning up blanks on exclusives that matter. On the other hand Microsoft did release some games on PC via their Windows Store. Like I am pretty interested in Gears 4. Though we got to wait for Scorpio to see what Microsoft has up their sleeves. That should be this year and it could change things up. Slowly.
TheMightyEthan
Apparently Crackdown is officially still in development. Phil Spencer confirmed, and they also have a presentation at GDC about the cloud physics.
Mr. GOH!
They're still making XBone games?
Mr. GOH!
Here's the the rundown of the Scorpio's technical specs: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealed I believe there still won't be xbone games that aren't on PC, so it doesn't matter to me.
