SomTervo
There may be a post about this already, but I couldn't see it in the most recent ones, so here we go. Anybody play this Starbreeze classic? I just started playing it again since my nostalgia has been exploding everywhere. I really love this game. It's like the action equivalent of Thief: Deadly Shadows, all serious real darkness with a great look and lighting engine. It's like a horror game where the twist is that you play the horror, terrorizing the underworld of New York City (in a realistic open world environment). It's like a regular shooter, but with mad supernatural superpowers that feed on darkness and are damaged by light- tentacles that grow out of your back and attack folk. I love the simulation mostly- in Starbreeze's style, like Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, it's solid FPS, where you can look down and see your legs, your body has a real presence in the gameworld- 1:1 shadows, reflections, animations and perspective. I love as well that it's a kind of open world, there are random characters to talk to, side quests to complete, Television to watch (you can watch the entirety of To Kill A Mockingbird in the game with your girlfriend.) The only things I don't like are that the movement pace is brutally slow, the types of Darkling assistants you get are too many and not useful enough, and the bits in 'Hell' are a tad weird and not so fun (though replaying the game it's nowhere near as bad as I thought). Mercurial
And the cursing. Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Still a great game can't wait for the sequel.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
It's one of the only games that got to me emotionally. Such a touching game, and an intense ending that left me begging for more.
Mister Jack
The game had its flaws but I really enjoyed it and am glad that it's finally getting a sequel. I just hope the new team can do it right.
staySICK
I love that game. Been waiting for a sequel for such a long time now, incredibly happy there's one on the way, I hope the change in developers doesn't sour this one.
SomTervo
Yeah I was a little concerned about the new developer, but really, there is SUCH a good basis to build upon, they can't go far off. Plus it's the same writer, I believe. The writing in the first is just phenomenal, though contrary to most, I actually dislike Jackie Estacado's writing and voice acting more than the other characters in the game.
