Cyber Rat
I've been playing this the past few days and the game seems pretty awesome. A bunch of my steam friends are also playing it, but not sure I've seen anyone from TAY try it aside from Johnny. Opinions? Impressions? Questions? Massive PvP plans?
McBeeferton
It's a complicated game and I prefer Minecraft. But it's still awesome.
CrowKnow
Compared to Minecraft which seems to be more focused on building and exploration, Terraria seems like more of a fighting and exploration game. In Minecraft the "goal" seems to be building your city/castle/pixelart etc..., Terraria's goal seems to be defeating the bosses, maxing your health/mana, and acquiring the best equipment in the game. I'm currently enjoying Terraria far more simply because I prefer the combat to the creativity but, once I reach the "end" of it I'll probably go back to Minecraft until Terraria's next patch. Not really a question but, feel free to message me on steam if you want to trade for anything, got most of the items in the game except for the ones found in dungeon. Mal
I watched Terraria streamed once and it kind of confirms my feeling that you can't really compare Minecraft to it*. The general feel to it is way different. It feels like Knytt Stories, which is a great game. With it feeling like Knytt Stories and going with what Chrno said, Terraria has a pretty defined end. Community made content could be a way to go to keep it going after the dev stop updating the game. So yeah, I will keep smacking people who compare it to Minecraft, with Chrno being the exception and no, I haven't played yet. *If people can feel like Call of Duty and Battlefield to be different beasts and thus can't really be compared, so can these two. CrowKnow
So... I was mining upwards... and above me was a flooded cave with a treasure inside it, thought might as well... thinking it's not gonna flood my whole cave right?... water started draining, took the treasure/broke the pots found a some flippers... 10 minutes later noticed all the water in my cave... with the source still draining... had the bright idea to drain it all into hell.... http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576672371047783606/CF73DCA2775538F9AB2699D62ED97ACE739F28B9/ (Not allowed to use that image extension on this board ?) Cyber Rat
So, my friend and I were fully geared and decided to go to a vanilla world, raid the dungeon and then raid an underground jungle (since I needed the ivy whip). He says the best way to find the jungle is to dig through the topmost part of the underworld layer. We go left from our spawn, dig from the dungeon and go right. We spend around and hour or so dodging imps, bone serpents, chasms and lava, all the while digging a small tunnel. In the end we finally found the underground jungle. It was mere inches away... Mid fight, when we were fending off around 3 imps, my friend throws dynamite to "clear the way" forward. He did not mention this, I did not see the dynamite at least a second before it exploded. We both died. We had to go back the same way again. It didn't take nearly as long as the first time, but it was still frustrating. You want to know the best part though? I was digging upwards and eventually reached the surface. The jungle was blatantly visible from the surface. All we needed to do to find it was go right from our spawn instead of left. arbitarty
Basically, waiting for tMod (only thing that gives you any control of a server) to get stabilized, so for now. its a free-for-all. Server is ter.rubberspoons.com password has changed. join the IRC below for the password or msg me here, but it may take a while here Password may change occasionally, new info will always be in the irc room, on irc.ospnet.org, #optimus Don't build anything important, because this will be torn down as soon as tMod is better. 8 Slots, tell your friends. I've reset the map and built a basic base for the NPC's to come to. Have fun!

Enervation
Anyone want to explain this game to me? I was considering buying a 4-pack on Steam and handing a code to someone, if it piqued enough of my interest.
Cyber Rat
Anyone want to explain this game to me? I was considering buying a 4-pack on Steam and handing a code to someone, if it piqued enough of my interest. You gather resources and ore and make items to survive. After you have basic survival down, you accomplish small feats and make housing to attract NPCs that will offer various services. As you make tools, armor and weapons, you explore the world to fight various monstrosities which include slimes, undead, corruption, demons, boss fights, etc. In your journeys, you find various magic items as well. There are also special locations like floating islands, underground jungles, dungeons, hell, etc. Saves of worlds and characters are separate. So you can save your character and play with him on different worlds. Or if you have trouble with a dungeon or something, open an MP server with a world you played in SP and have them come over to help you. Content updates were also promised and so far, they are being delivered.
Connorrrr
I've setup a dedicated server. 8 slot limit. let me know if you want access. I'll only be accepting people from these forums for the start. Edit: ^ That may sound harsh, but I want to get it started with people I know and trust . I'll open it up a bit more afterwards. I'll get in on that :

I know there's a ton of comparisons as the 2D Minecraft, but it seems to have gone above n beyond in a few segments.

Connorrrr
Yeah, I was interested because it was apparently a 2D minecraft, but it's a lot more. I love exploring caves and stuff, and there's a lot more progression.

Mal
Man. Me not wanting to use a wiki, too much, finds the progression to be pretty slow. Not saying it in a negative light. Then again I'm playing SP, building underground which requires me to knock down all the dirt walls to replace them. Borrowing an iron hammer from Arb's server sure helps. Also, my map has sooooooo many monsters now after visiting Arb's server...

Nexus
Blood Moon night is fun when you have the capability to deal with it though. Just stand at your doorway and swing at the zombies without getting hit, and you'll earn loads of money.

Get 30 people on and go down to hell and it is IMPOSSIBLE to survive
Mal
I don't think it was a Blood Moon night. I used to only have 1-2 monsters at once and now, after visiting your server I get 5+, plus rabbits and such. Didn't have them before. Mal
Well... okay. I don;t keep up with Terraria. My first boss encounter was... scary to say the least. Frogging old man... Second one I was more prepared but it escaped when morning came. I need to harvest more lenses! And now I'm thinking of breaking my no wiki thing. I was only dealing like 2-10 damage on the bosses.
