I really like the game, but I find the pacing to be completely, uh, off? Mostly because the worlds are randomly generated, but I feel like there's no rhyme or reason to the game's pacing in terms of how much the game progresses. You could go hours and hours in caves and find nothing of use, then turn around and see six crystal hearts right next to each other.

The world generator algorithm could definitely use some changes. I mean, it's neat at first at how random it is, but then it gets really annoying how slow the game seems to progress.

WE NEED TO HAVE A TERRARIA SERVER :D Got it in the sales, starts out a bit slow but there's a lot to it!

Agreed, a friend of mine had a 3-player I was in on the other night, brand new world. Within the first hour, the host, who'd gone into the multiplayer blind with no new weapons/armour, had found a Demon Altar and managed to dig down as far as an underground Corruption. It was awesome seeing all 3 of us bricking it when surround by all these Eater of Souls underground and suddenly this giant worm comes in and treble-kills us.

Unfortunately the game doesn't have dedicated servers per-sé but if someone nominated themselves as a host and set up a separate world for dedicated multiplayer, that would work.

I really want to like Terarria, but I just haven't got into it like I have with Minecraft yet. The interface doesn't seem as intuitive as Minecraft, and the movement and combat/digging/building seems somewhat sluggish compared with some other platformers.

I have definitely not given it enough time, though. I'll probably get around to it if PXOD gets a server, or if some friends talk me into it more, but I'm sticking with Minecraft at the moment.

Any good tutorials or wikis anybody's found?

Does anyone know of where you'd look into setting up a Terraria server, or how much they'd cost? There's been a couple folks in this thread and the steam group suggesting a server.

I'd love to run a bunch of servers n such, but as a community we're nowhere near big enough yet.

But if it's cheap we can maybe look into ways of getting it going.

I think it makes sense to have a sort of rotating server based on voting or something each month.

Think, each month there could be a poll and that could choose the server for that month. I'm not sure if this is even technically possible (it probably isn't, as a BF3 or BC2 server would likely cost more than a Terarria server), but I suppose it's an idea. At least this way when the TF2 server becomes empty after 2 weeks we could easily change it.

I'm always down for donating around 5 bucks a month for servers if that's a possibility, but they're not cheap and would need some fairly regular donators probably.

They supported the game post launch really damn well. With other folks wanting to take over development... it would be amusing to see it jumping developers over the next ___ years. It would be interesting to see happen since this game is friggin 2D with a set style. It won't change much visually.
